matthcarl Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 After I bent 1/4"x6" round steel from FBBC, a few people said I should try a 60d. I stopped by Lowe's. There wasn't as much selection as I'd expected, but they had Grip Rite 6" galvanized 60d commons for $0.32 apiece and I grabbed 50. They also had twist nails, but I hear those aren't much of a challenge. The things look kind of intimidating, but I gave it my best. Here was the result: First 60d It seemed harder than the FBBC 6", but that could be my imagination. Quote Name: Matt Carl Runner, Graphomaniac, Steel Bending Fiend
acorn Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Congrats, great job! I usually pick up my bright common 60ds at Home Depot and they are typically $.07 a piece. Lowes never has them here. I got a 50# box of them not long ago for less than $30 if I remember right. - Aaron Quote ** Retired **
matthcarl Posted August 16, 2007 Author Posted August 16, 2007 I'll have to try Home Depot next time. Serves me right for being too lazy to visit both. Quote Name: Matt Carl Runner, Graphomaniac, Steel Bending Fiend

Number Ten Ox Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Nice work! Someone told me after you can bend 15 60d's in a day you will be able to bend a G5. For me it was true. Tim71 Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Great job! Few bends are as memorable as the first 60d. I looked at the pic too and that griprite looks tougher than the easy ones I had. Mine made a really wide "U" bend. As for the theorys about a G5 will fall when you can do this and that with 60d nails, I wouldn't bank on that. Of all the 60d nails I've sent to Eric to calibrate here are just some of the numbers that various ones have returned. 210, 240, 265, 280, 295, 305, 315, 325, 330, 380 and a whopper at 480 lbs. That last nail was much tougher than a G8 and was given to me by mmainlands and a few were given to me by Pat P himself. The 380 and 480 are rare but even 210 to 330 is a wild spread. I could do pretty good volume with the 280 lbs nails which are pretty good and I still couldn't do a G5. To me the G5s hurt a little more if you're using thinner pads. Great job again. I'm not sure any bend has made me happier than my first 60d nail so enjoy it. It's a legendary bend. Tim Quote

I think this one was close to the FBBC 1/4"x6" in hardness, which is supposed to be 300 or so, right? Quote Name: Matt Carl Runner, Graphomaniac, Steel Bending Fiend
