acorn Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 The last ones that got calibrated were from this time last year and went 460# - Aaron Quote ** Retired **
rednail300 Posted August 16, 2007 Author Posted August 16, 2007 on Eric Milfelds list of calibrated fbbc stocks a G8 rates at 460 lbs, thats means a rednail is equal with a G8? wscorpion Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 (edited) on Eric Milfelds list of calibrated fbbc stocks a G8 rates at 460 lbs, thats means a rednail is equal with a G8? Definitely not. A G8 is 6", a red in 6" length would rate somewhere around 600lbs. You cannot compare different lengths. For example, Booyah just bent the 3/8 hex and round at 7" and approx 600lbs. I've bent the red at 5.5" which should rate a well over that, but I'm 200% sure I cannot bend the stock that Booyah bent (yet) Edited August 16, 2007 by White Scorpion Quote Mark Vogels -------------------- "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right."
dimmers Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 (edited) Yeah, i've read this before on the gripboard about calibrations of different length stock. I don't think you can compare different lengths as White Scorpian has already said. I'll see if i can dig out the old thread that explains all of this. http://www.gripfaq.com/gb/FBBCSteelProgression.pdf pretty cool Edited August 16, 2007 by dimmers Quote

rednail300 Posted August 16, 2007 Author Posted August 16, 2007 Does anyone know what a 1\4"x7" stainless square aprox rates at? havent seen that one in any steel calibration Quote real name: Erik Pettersson goals 2010: Coc #3 Bench 120 kg Bench 125 kg DL 180 kg squat 165 kg vertical card tear 15 kg plate curl 45# blob lift
vikingsrule92 Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Does anyone know what a 1\4"x7" stainless square aprox rates at? havent seen that one in any steel calibration I don't think one has been calibrated, at least not by Milfield. I would rate it between a regular square and a bastard. However on these the kink is pretty "buttery" as Brendan put it ( and I agree) while the kink is INSANE!!! The kink is probably at the level of a regular square or a bit above (probably 10-20 lbs) while the crush is definitely harder than a bastard (at least the 420 lbs. bastard I tried) Quote
Jedd Johnson Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Actually, back when everybody used reverse style or double underhand, whenever a guy would bend a Grade 8 within a week or two, he would get a red nail, so i think they are a good indicator, myself. However, the red nails lately have been rating higher. Whenever I say something about a red nail, John Eaton asks me if it was a new or an old one, so the correlation between the two might not be as close anymore. Keep up the good work. Would this be a different case if using Do? Quote
Tim71 Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Just my opinion but for alot, and myself included, the 7 inch length feels very weird with DO style at the first until you get the hang of it and maybe that's what Jedd is referring to. I remember the first time I tried 5/16 soft HRS I felt like I couldn't put any power into it. Now I prefer that length. Tim Quote
