matthcarl Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 1/4"x7" bend The 1/4"x7" round steel from FBBC finally went down today. I couldn't even kink it a couple of days ago. I wonder how much is technique and how much is psychological. Anyway, my bending seems to be progressing faster than other grip feats and I'm happy. It seems like I always come back stronger after a couple of days off, and there's always something else to work on. I'm thinking the G5 bolt is next. dansweeney Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Awesome job! The "Yellow nail" was a huge mental barrier for me personally! Next the 6" x 1/4" Dan Quote
crobb1320 Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 great job matt,go for the 6"x1/4 next, the grade 5 is quite a bit harder than the 1/4". again, great job Quote Charles Robbins 5'6"-155 lbs. 7-1/4" hand age 39 --2010 goals: Get back on the Gripboard more often 25 chins in a row Finish 5" g5. 4.5" g5 bend Bastard bend Close #3 C.o.C. 250 vbar 200 thick vbar Hub lift 2 45's+10each. matthcarl Posted August 15, 2007 Author Posted August 15, 2007 Great job, are you a DU or DO bender? I try to practice both ways, but DO is much easier. I haven't managed anything harder than 3/16" square DU. Quote Name: Matt Carl Runner, Graphomaniac, Steel Bending Fiend
matthcarl Posted August 15, 2007 Author Posted August 15, 2007 Thanks guys. Since I'm here, where does the 5/16" G2 fall as far as difficulty goes? Quote Name: Matt Carl Runner, Graphomaniac, Steel Bending Fiend
ox3782 Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 1/4 6" G2 is easier than 6"x1/4 round in my opinion. Brendan Quote Brendan Dwyer | 6'1" | 204lbs | 7 7/8 inch hand

ox3782 Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Thanks guys. Since I'm here, where does the 5/16" G2 fall as far as difficulty goes? Oh yah I missed the 5/16 part thought we were talking 1/4.I feel that a 5/16 g2 and fbbc 1/4 square feel similar. So pretty hard. Brendan Quote Brendan Dwyer | 6'1" | 204lbs | 7 7/8 inch hand
cptnamazin Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 yea, 5/16 g2 is a tough one. i bent a 1/4 g8 no problem but can barely kink one of those monsters. Quote I want to be built like a brick shithouse. Like, seriously, I want people to walk up to me, newspaper in hand, and ask the bloke standing next to me, "Where's the door?"
Autolupus Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 (edited) Nice bending man! Try working down to 5" , It'll probably kink OK but the crushdown'll be harder. As far as 5/16 G2s go I managed to squish a pre-kinked I was using for isos: http://www.gripboard.com/index.php?automod...si&img=6045 On one prog. chart they're put @ about#305 and before a 6" 1/4Round but I'm sure it's a typo! matthcarl Posted August 15, 2007 Author Posted August 15, 2007 OK, I'll table the 5/16" bolt for a while. But I forgot I did have some 1/4"x6" round and I felt strong enough that I couldn't resist trying it just now. It got it below 2", but it sure was hard. With my customary off-center bend. I suppose I should start marking the center like someone suggested. Another lousy photo I should have mentioned in the first photo I put in a white nail just for size comparison. Autolupus Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 The marking the centre thing would've been Neil Kaz. Nice bending man, don't get too spent, it's addictive and easy to pick up an injury. Quote Mike Mackenzie. Luceo non uro.

matthcarl Posted August 15, 2007 Author Posted August 15, 2007 Just as a side note, my 17 year-old brother is getting into bending, too. He got the 1/4" G2 tonight with less practice than I had, which kind of bruises the ego (I outweigh him by a good 50 lbs.) I told him to join the board as well. CoC#3 Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Excellent - you could probably bend most non mutant 60d's now. Keep up the good work. Quote real name: Sam Solomi
Tim71 Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 Great job! Definately try some 60d nails now. It's a major milestone and feat of strength tradition. No matter what I bend people still get a huge kick out of 60d nails. Tim Quote
matthcarl Posted August 15, 2007 Author Posted August 15, 2007 Thanks for all the encouragement. I'm not much of an expert on metal...would Lowe's carry 60d nails? I work next door to one and I've been thinking of stopping there on the way home. Quote Name: Matt Carl Runner, Graphomaniac, Steel Bending Fiend

A 60d nail is just a term used to describe a 6''x1/4'' nail - the difficulty varies though. Most (at least in england) are CRS (cold rolled steel). Quote real name: Sam Solomi
Autolupus Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 A lot of English 6" nails are 6mm rather than 6.25", makes a fair bit of difference. Quote Mike Mackenzie. Luceo non uro.
makey98 Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I have only seen one Lowes that carries 60d nails and I have been to quite a few of them. I only bought a couple at the time because I wasn't close to that level. I have never seen anything other than Timber Ties at HD or Ace either. I have had quite a problem finding ANY other 60d nails around my area. Look around for some small hardware/fastener type places. They are out there it seems..I just can't find 'em. Good luck!
