Tim71 Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Any of you that have good steel suppliers if you get a chance and can check something for me I'd appreciate it. If they have it, then I'll just get them to ship to me. I know that at one time hot rolled steel was made in 11/16. They used it in a few WSM contests that I've seen and it's even referrenced on some online steel suppliers but when I call, all they have is cold-rolled. Even if it's old stock that's been laying around I'll take it. Also, if any of your steel suppliers have any grade of hot rolled steel other than A36 then I'd like to try another grade too possibly. If any of you can inquire about these 2 questions I'd appreciate it or if you know a definate online source I'd be interested. Also, anybody know what grade the Euro hot rolled steel is and how it compares mechanically to A36? I just love trying different things. Tim Quote
com202 Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Tim, I checked a steel distributor today. They didn't have 11/16" hrs and they acted like it would be real hard to find. They said that they MIGHT be able to special order it. If you want I can call them and see if they can special order it for you. I forgot the second question by the time I got over there. I'll check on it though next time I go back. On the up side. I got the 1"x1/4", 3/4"x1/4" and 3/16"x1" flat steel. 20' each. For a grand total of $32.59. I will never buy the 3' sections from these small stores again. climber511 Posted August 15, 2007 Posted August 15, 2007 I checked both of my places and they have cold roll 11/16 but no hot. bencrush Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 Sorry Tim. I checked with all 4 of mine and none could get their hands on 11/16" HRS. They might be able to get in some other HRS besides A36. I haven't gone in about a week though. I wrecked my body bending a bunch of wrenches over a 2 day period. A few 6" Companion wrenches, a few 8" Companion wrenches, a 10" Harbor Freight (Pittsburgh) that sapped my soul and gave me the worst nose bleed of my life. And kinked the 12" Harbor Freight to around 20 degrees and it's done. Quote
Tim71 Posted August 16, 2007 Author Posted August 16, 2007 Thanks guys for checking. I've had a real hard time. I know it existed at one time because they used to use it in WSM comps and some steel suppliers I've called had it in their catalogs only to find out later on it's been recently discontinued. I wondered about older stock maybe. I REALLY appreciate everyone trying. I'd love to locate some even though I'm sure shipping will cost $$$. Ben, sounds like you're hammering the wrenches really good. Tim Quote
