Jeff T Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Hi guys, I'm after a new gripper, something that will slot in at roughly 1.6-1.7 using the Ironmind scale. Heavy Grips are by far the cheapest option for me living in Australia, is there one that will suit my needs? I'm guessing the 200, as I heard they run a bit weaker than the IM equivalent poundage. Thanks, Jeff p.s. I'm certain there's a post with a list of grippers in order of strength, I just couldn't find it. Quote

That being said, my HG200 is around 1.3, and my HG250 is a 1.8. Quote
lloyd80s Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Get an HG250 mate. I've got a #2 and it's quite a bit harder than the HG250. I'd say the HG250 fits between a #1.5 and #2. Quote IT'S ONLY A SPRING........
pdfk20 Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Forget about the HG's get the BB Master much better gripper and is like a 1.8. matthcarl Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Impromptu comparison in front of my computer indicates the HG 200 is slightly harder than the #1 and much easier than the #2 (which I cannot quite close). Quote Name: Matt Carl Runner, Graphomaniac, Steel Bending Fiend
Jeff T Posted August 8, 2007 Author Posted August 8, 2007 Thanks guys. Hubgeezer, I was aware that they varied more than other brands. Jeez and I thought Ironmind was bad. Heavy grips weren't around the last time I trained seriously with grippers, just getting interested again now after a few years off. Pete, the shipping's excessive on anything but the heavy grips. Lifting Large is the only company I've found that doesn't have exorbitant international postage prices, and they only sell heavy grips. Otherwise I'd be getting an RB gripper. Guess I'll get the 250 and hope for a weak one. Quote

vikingsrule92 Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Towards the lower half of the scale! So, between Galaxy and Super Galaxy lies the MMG6? LOL No, if I remember right the MM5 and MM6 are both around 340-360 lbs. Both are around or easier than a #4 I'm just not sure on the exact strength. maybe someone more knowledgeable could help me out here? Quote
Jeff T Posted August 9, 2007 Author Posted August 9, 2007 Thanks twig! No, I can't close a #3 at the moment. After I got certified I completely lost interest in grippers, and pretty much grip training in general. Now, I realise that closing a hard gripper is enough to build a strong grip. I want something a bit weaker than a #2 so I can work on closing it from disadvantageous positions, 2 finger and 3 finger closes, left handed work, high rep closes, no set closes etc. My training partner could also use something in that strength range, so it seems like the best option. I'm geared more towards hand strength now than just closing big grippers. I'd still like to close my RB300 one day, but for now I'm looking for a balanced grip. Quote
