matthcarl Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Yeah, I'm just the excited newbie that has to post every great and new accomplishment. I got my C.O.C. #1 and #2 yesterday. I can close the 1 with either hand, and can get close with the 2 on the right hand, but my left is a lot weaker. The IM literature is good for the ego, I suppose, since it says that even most people who lift weights can't close the #1. I'm not sure I believe that considering how easy it was for me, and considering my sub-bodyweight bench max. In any case I can just come here to the gripboard for good dose of humility. Almost as an afterthought, I ordered some white nails with the grippers. I know they say to start on something easy, but I was very surprised how easy (and fun) these are to bend. I tried DO and DU. I could easily get addicted to bending and I'm looking forward to try something harder. Quote Name: Matt Carl Runner, Graphomaniac, Steel Bending Fiend
dimmers Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Way to go! Try the 1/4" stock next time, will be more of a challenge to you! Bending is great fun! good luck with it. Quote
Alawadhi Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 Well done! If you didn't do the 1/4 don't be discoureged. It's a big jump from 3/16 to 1/4. But once you got your form down you will be killing G8 and above no problem. Quote Read about me in my biography. cptnamazin Posted August 7, 2007 Posted August 7, 2007 yea, gripping and lifting are 2 entirely different kinds of strong. i work in a warehouse full of people who lift heavy things for a living, including one kid who does nothing but workout and train to be a boxer, and none of them can close the #1. i grind the handles on the thing and they think i'm amazing. What's the spread on #3; #3.5 and #4 respectively and approximately, on average? Is it different on GR8 vs black vs old shiny? matthcarl Posted August 8, 2007 Author Posted August 8, 2007 great job man, keep it up and you will progress quickly. definitely move up to the 1/4" for bending, just go to lowes or something and get some bolt cutters and some 1/4" rod to practice on. Thanks. I did get some more stuff to bend. The 3/16" round stuff goes down pretty easily, even at 5", but I look at a 1/4" bar and think That's just 1/16" wider? It looks (and feels) impossible. My hands feel a little battered, so I'll probably take a few days off and try again. I can definitely relate to the New England breeze, but I already have enough paperweights. I can't see ordering the 3.5 before at least closing my HG 300. Quote Name: Matt Carl Runner, Graphomaniac, Steel Bending Fiend
acorn Posted August 8, 2007 Posted August 8, 2007 Congrats on the #2 close! I have to warn you though, bending is very addictive and you never look at things the same way again. Now I see stuff as hmmm, can I bend that or how can I destroy that with my hands. Good Luck, - Aaron Quote ** Retired **

Now I know it is insanely addictive and I agree now I look at everything as how could I bend/break that. Edited August 8, 2007 by vikingsrule92 Quote
