lloyd80s Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 There's a lot of talk about the #4 on the gripboard at the moment. All these posts about people trying a new #4 cert made me think about the 5 offical #4 closers. If we gave a new gr8 #4 to Mugnus, Tommy, Kinney, Holle or morton, how would they do? Does anyone know if any of thses guys have tried a new gr8 cert? Taking into consideration that Ironmind have made the whole #4 cert much harder now, you'd still think that the above guys should all stand some kind of chance. It makes you wonder just how tough Ironmind want to make a #4 cert........like it wasn't hard enough already!! Good luck to the first gr8 #4 cert, you'll not have to buy your own drinks for a while!! Let's just hope we see it sooner rather than NEVER. Quote IT'S ONLY A SPRING........
Tim71 Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 I've always wondered how hard did Magnus have to train for it? As huge as his hands are and as strong as he is I wonder if it was just an afterthought. Tim Quote

He held it closed for a while and then repeated the feat. I don't know if it was a GR8 #4 or not? IronMind wasn't trying to make the #4 cert harder, they were trying to standardize the cert process in general for both the #3 and the #4. The #4 may now be unattainable because of it. Quote

About Magnus, he doesn't ge much mention around here as a candidate for closing a GR8#4, new rules; how come? Has he quit working with grippers? gazza Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 No disrespect but have any of the above actually closed any 4 new or old by the credit card rule because that would need to be done before attempting a new GR8 4 i would of thought to atleast see were you stack up as supposedly all the older 4s are easier than the new GR8 4s. Alawadhi Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 (edited) I don't think he means it that way. Only anything is through logic. A close of #4 with the new IM rules is not impossible. That's what he mean and I agree. The reply is to thearm95. Edited August 5, 2007 by Alawadhi Quote Read about me in my biography. Cannon Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 There was this recent quote from Magnus on Ironmind's news: Today [July 5th, 2007], when we asked how his grip strength was doing at the moment, Magnus Samuelsson told IronMind, "I don’t want to brag, but I can close the No. 4 no problem." Someone should get him a GR8 gripper. I know Dave (or Greg, I suppose) has a GR8 #4 because they calibrated them. I have never seen a specific report on his performance, however. I believe it's possible. Does anyone know Nathan Holle? Does he still train grippers? Quote

maidenfan Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 The GR8 I have is tremendously harder than the black spring, double stamp 4 I have. makey98 Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Don't know much about the different springs, stampings, ect, but is only the #4 a Gr8 spring or are the newer #3's, 2.5 also a different spring? You didn't ask me, but from what I've seen on the Finnish grip forum (plenty of the guys on the Finnish grip community have had their grippers calibrated), those #3.5s vary from 3,32 up to 3,68 on the CoC-scale. That is from 169 lbs up to 190 lbs. Matti Heiskanen (kilkkinen on this forum) has calibrated 205 grippers already with the RGC Replica that he made. Teemu I Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 (edited) GR8 spring #4s vary as well, of course (and quite a bit IMO). Easiest #4 calibrated here in Finland was 206,4 lbs / rating= 3,96 (that one is mine and it is a GR8-model) while the hardest was 228,5 lbs / rating= 4,33.
