makey98 Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 i have only bent a couple of things that were threaded and they all snapped. That is probably why Quote Current Goals: COC #2.5 45# blob R-Grade 5/G8 DO Deck of cards <10 sec.
antarath Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 (edited) Very nice! Folks, check rednail300's videos on youtube. It impressed me. The way he bent the blue nail... my god But be careful bending a wrench the way you did. If it snapped earlier you could be dead meat The way you throw the wrench away when it snapped is hilarious hhaha. rednail300 Posted August 5, 2007 Author Posted August 5, 2007 Thanks for the responses guys, I was gonna give the 20mmx1000mm threaded galvanized bar a try, but if they snap becuse they are theaded i dont think i will do that. Nice work like I said on youtube I've never encountered any threaded that would snap that easily, not stainless nor galvanized, however, Tim T also told me that threaded bars snap fast, so perhaps there is a difference in material in the US vs Europe. Just be careful, if it snaps during the knee pull it might hurt your tendons. If it snaps when pulling it to your body you might hit your face with your fists Quote Mark Vogels -------------------- "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right."
rednail300 Posted August 5, 2007 Author Posted August 5, 2007 Thanks mark, yeah youre probably right. Maybe it was good that i couldnt bend that 16mmx1000mm threaded stainless bar any further then i did. I also believe that threaded bars are much much easer to bend then a regular stainless bar. wscorpion Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 Thanks mark, yeah youre probably right. Maybe it was good that i couldnt bend that 16mmx1000mm threaded stainless bar any further then i did. I also believe that threaded bars are much much easer to bend then a regular stainless bar. They are not by definition easier to bend, they just have less steel to bend for the same size. For example, an 8mm threaded bar actually has around 6.5-7mm solid steel, the rest is the thread which just opens up during the bend. So that 20mm bar of mine actually is comparable to a solid 18.5-19mm galvanized bar. Stainless on the other hand has a difference in material anyway. There are quite a few different stainless types, one probably harder then the other. One might snap easier, the other one might bent in a U form instead of V. Gazza is the stainless guru over here, so he might tell you more about the stainless types and why yours snapped I've bent about 15 pieces of threaded stainless in the last months, and none of them even felt like snapping. Not even when bending them back again. Quote Mark Vogels -------------------- "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right."
