Tim71 Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 A while back Mark and I swapped some steel for braced bending. I like trying different kinds of steel and always wanted to try the metric stuff so I sent him some USA 1/2 inch or 12.7 mm and he sent me some 12mm and some 10mm square. I think he got some spikes too but anyway. I got the package in Saturday but my hands still have this weird bruising feeling deep in the tissue from the 1/2 inch by 8 inch attempt so I was going to wait until next week but couldn't stand it anymore so I tackled it tonight. Since this steel is legal for David's list I had the cammera rolling and measured everything on video. First I tried the 10 inch piece and it went down well within the limit. So I went right to the 9 inch piece and it too went down. So I decided to go ahead and shoot for level 9 with the 8 inch bend it I'm happy to say it went down. I just watched the video and I cut it a little closer to the 5 minutes then I thought but it was under time. Neat thing is as soon as I measured it on cammera then showed the unwrapping the wraps, my tape run out. Perfect timing! A few seconds sooner and my wraps would not have been shown on video. After the the video run out I did go ahead and crush it down to about 1.75 inches just to make it look better. Big ol' thanks to Mark for shipping this steel to me. I'm sure he's progress fast not only though his steel but the 1/2 inch I sent to him. Here's the pic: 12mm steel bends Hopefully David will get the video in a week or so and we'll see if it makes the cut! Later, Tim Quote
David Horne Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 As I said via pm can't wait to view the dvd. Big congrats Tim. David Quote
wscorpion Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 (edited) Very nice Tim!!! Now I know for sure I still have a long way to go with braced bending btw, the supplier for this steel is www.alfer.com perhaps they sell in the US as well. Like I said in PM, I still can't believe the only difference between our steel is the 0.7mm size, my steel must be much softer then yours. The 10mm square looks hard, but I've already bent it at 32cm (approx. 12.5" length) and that went down pretty easily, so I'm sure you can take it down on 8" as well!
