gazza Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Heres my 2nd go at spike snapping. Link to youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63nKi9v3W1w Quote "There he goes. One of gods own prototypes. Brad Manion Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Wow... That's some crazy stuff Gazza. It was a little tough to see in the black and white video, but could you estimate how many bends it took to break the spike? Quote
gazza Posted July 29, 2007 Author Posted July 29, 2007 Brad I didnt count em I did snap another one before this but didnt video it as i wanted to be shure i could do it on the 1st one i made the mistake of doing the first bend to big which made it harder to bend back as its hard to stop the spike wanting to spin in your grip so on the 2nd one i set up the video as i was now warmed up and decided to not use the under the knee start so that i would not get an initial bigger kink this helped but i almost blew it as i think the initial kink on this one was not quite enough. you can see me twisting the towel around the spike this helps to stop it spinning abit its cheating a bit but still hard to do even with this method as the spike heats up and bends more you can see it trying to pivot away on the leg this is the hardest part as tou dont want the spike to try and make a 2nd bend which would makes it much harder. These fbbc spikes have a high carbon content so that makes them easier to snap than a soft metal one which would heat up on a bigger radius making it harder. I have been working on this with 3/8inch CRS square and round and thought it was time to give it a shot now i need to cut the stock down and go for a 10inch spike then eventually the 80d spike. wscorpion Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Nice work mate, especially like the technique... Maybe I'll give it a try as well soon, sounds like fun Quote Mark Vogels -------------------- "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right."
Alawadhi Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Well done! Quote Read about me in my biography. Tim71 Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Nice job! May take a shorter time to snap those spikes but they sure are harder to get moving than the griprite ones. Great idea! Tim Quote
