matthcarl Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Hi all. I know I've seen plenty of comments about relative quality of Heavy Grips products, but I didn't see anything about the handles pulling off. I got a new HG 100 and after only a few closes one handle twisted and came off. Is this common for grippers in general? I also have a 200 and 300 and I gave the handles a few hearty tugs and they seem fine. Just a fluke? Quote Name: Matt Carl Runner, Graphomaniac, Steel Bending Fiend
GatorGrip Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Hi all. Never experienced that mishap but some JB Weld or other super-epoxy would no doubt lock those handles in for the long haul. Now on the flip side if you have the hankering to file a gripper handle down for beyond the range over crushes HG will be the easiest choice (cost and qaulity) , filing an RB gripper will break your heart if you even get near it with a file. deep_salvage Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 Ask for a refund, and never again by poor quality grippers. I am starting to come around to this point of view. I bought the HG 100, 150 and 200. I came here to complain that the 200 was too soft. I went on to replace it and purchase the HG 250. Just the HG200 was faulty. The upshot of that post turned out to be that HG do have more problems than more expensive brands. HG offer a warranty though, so you should be able to return then for a replacement. I think if there is going o be a problem with them, it happens straight away. Quote
matthcarl Posted July 29, 2007 Author Posted July 29, 2007 I'm trying to get it replaced, but since it was an ebay sale HG doesn't cover them directly. I was just curious if it was a problem that I could expect to recur, and it doesn't look like it. That said, I was a little surprised how soft the grips are. I still can't close the 300, but the 200 went down after I watched some video to get the technique down. I have a couple of IM grips on the way for comparison, but grippers aren't really a big part of my workout at the moment. Quote Name: Matt Carl Runner, Graphomaniac, Steel Bending Fiend
NHBBareKnuckler Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 I ordered the 100 to the 350. I have to say I was disappointed with them. I am not sure exactly what to say other then they are all way to easy to close and the spread on each one of them is totally different. Send it back and ask for your money back. Invest in something else. Quote
dimmers Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 I believe HG have some of the best customer service out there so if you'd of bought direct from them they would of relpaced it free of charge no questions asked. I suppose you get what you pay for really, so if you want a better quality gripper then i'd try out the Iron Mind grippers, i've never had any problems with these at all and mine are years old. Quote
maidenfan Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 HG - Mine are all offset handle depth - quality questionable (400/500 seem ok tho - other than the lack of good knurling). IM - All of mine are top notch - no problems. RB - All of mine are top notch - no problems. Tetting - The few I have are excellent grippers - one of the handles on one is coming loose though and I'm sure if I cared about it, Mr. Tetting would fix it in a heart beat - very nice guy. superfeemiman Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Ask for a refund, and never again by poor quality grippers. lol For some reason when I read your lol, I laughed too. lol. And I think because of their price, HG's make the best grippers for filing and anything else that permanently modifies them (like making their knurling soft if you have a clamp on them). Win-win situation if you ask me. Quote #2 Right hand -- 12/17/06 Parallel, 2/11/07 CCS, 5/9/07 No-set ///// Left hand -- 2/11/07 Parallel, 4/7/07 CCS, 5/9/07 No-set #3 #4(lol)

I didn't see this post earlier, but that was another thing I noticed. I've heard some people say HG's have knurling so sharp it cuts their fingers. Mine are so smooth they slip very easily. I like feel of the IM grippers much better. Quote Name: Matt Carl Runner, Graphomaniac, Steel Bending Fiend
