wscorpion Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Lately I've been trying different styles for braced bending and it's getting somewhere. I've bend a flat steel bar which IMO is harder then the 13" x 12mm round I've bend for David's list. Here's the video of the bend: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuBZbxx-Nt8 Anyone else ever tried these flat bars? I feel it's a nice change vs the standard round bars Quote Mark Vogels -------------------- "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right."
gazza Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Nice work Mark. Quote "There he goes. One of gods own prototypes. A high powered mutant of some kind never ever considered for mass production.Too weird to live and too rare to die."
Tim71 Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Mark, Great job! Actually I really like the flat steel too since it doesn't try to flip around like round can do. Most of mine has been 1/4 inch by 1 inch. So far I've done a 12, 10 and an 8 and the 8 and really the 10 too were both pretty stout bends. Excellent practice for wrenches too. Tim Quote
wscorpion Posted July 15, 2007 Author Posted July 15, 2007 Thanks guys! Tim, 1/4 x 1 inch on 8, 10, and 12 are very impressive bends. I've bent the 5mm x 1 inch on 9" and couldn't get the 8" further then a kink of 20 degrees or so. Personally I feel bending 8" stock braced is very difficult since you don't have much room for holding your hands when you place the bar on your thigh. Did you already receive the package I've sent you? It should be there by now Quote Mark Vogels -------------------- "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right."
Tim71 Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Mark, I'm anxiously awaiting. I call the post office about every other day and aggrevate them. It's still not past the 15 business days so I guess it's just on the tail end of the estimate. I can't wait to try the new stuff. Nice job on the flat steel and yes like you said the 8 requires me sometimes to use my index fingers as a fulcrum and that can really hurt. 10 inchers I don't have to do that on. Tim Quote
wscorpion Posted July 15, 2007 Author Posted July 15, 2007 Man those post offices are really terrible. I'm still waiting for a package of a one hand lift handle to arrive from David Horne which he shipped on the 3rd this month. Also got a few others which take way too long (if they ever arrive).... I've found a nice bar last weekend, it's 10mm square and turned like a thread. I think that one will really pose a challenge to bend. I haven't bought it yet, but perhaps some day I will Quote Mark Vogels -------------------- "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right."

dimmers Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 (edited) How about 'Rage against the machine'? or some 'Metallica'? or, something that i'd find funny is doing a really tough bend with classical music in the background..... hey, it might even work well Edited July 15, 2007 by dimmers Quote

How about 'Rage against the machine'? or some 'Metallica'?or, something that i'd find funny is doing a really tough bend with classical music in the background..... hey, it might even work well Already had several from RATM, but Metallica is a nice choice and the idea of the classical music sounds nice as well Quote Mark Vogels -------------------- "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right."
