bencrush Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Tomorrow (Saturday) at 10am. Very short notice and sorry about that. I don't think there are many that are very close. But if you are close enough and want to come over and do some grip stuff, then you're more than welcome! Scott Harris is coming over and between the two of us we've got enough grip toys to keep even the strongest guys happy. There will be an assortment of York Blobs, nice hub 45s, Chris Rice vbar, 2" vbar, Rolling Thunder, Apollon's Axle, a bunch of Scott's grippers, my few grippers, and enough bending stock to fill a hardware store. So if you've always wanted to try out some grip stuff, whether it's a vbar or bending, don't wait another day. Come over and enjoy the company of some fellow grip guys. Call me first if you're coming over though. 785-838-9416. Quote
bencrush Posted July 14, 2007 Author Posted July 14, 2007 This will be a chance for me to try out some of the MGC events again. It's been a while since I really trained anything but bending in preparation for the contest. I've been doing some gripper workouts again and that's improving a little, probably because of dropping the DO bending. Silver lining. Quote

bencrush Posted July 15, 2007 Author Posted July 15, 2007 Wish you could have made it Josh! We had a great time. Spent about 4 hours just messing around with pretty much everything under the sun. A little of this and a little of that. And miracle of miracles...I did NOT bend anything DO! Didn't have much to contribute to the grip fest myself. Just a few mediocre lifts at best. It was mainly the GetAGrip87 show today. Kid is strong! And light. Makes me feel like a big plodding fat bastard. I did a few #3 closes, 6" Grade 8 (FBBC) DU, 310 both hands on the vbar, and pinched (5)10s with 2 fingers right hand but had to use the whole hand on the left. Haven't trained pinch in a long time. Shame on me. Some of Scott's highlights: He TNS the GM1, which is harder than it used to be. The spring is mounted so damn low it's grinding on the top of the handles. Stout gripper really to TNS close. Would surprise more than a few board members who regularly close a Super Master with a parallel set. (5)10s one hand pinch with ease! I stacked some plates together and he just smoked them to full lockout and then a nice smooth and in control descent. Got that on tape. His hands are not very long, so it's even more impressive to me to watch him do it with ease. He repeatedly lifted my 42.5 York (which actually weighs 43.6!) to hip level. Looked super easy for him. He's done much better than that. He wasn't able to hub lift my 45s today...but last month he did it so easily it was sick. Course it was hot and humid today in my garage and no AC. He got about an 1/8" away on his Medium #3, which is a nice solid #3. PR there for him. He would have killed my Easy #3 if it was here today. He also bent a 5/16"X7" Drill Rod with a still-broken left hand! It was hard for him and he still just kept gutting it out. I had to alternate between encouraging him and apologizing for encouraging him, thinking that I might be the reason he might get hurt even worse. Not many have seen him bend in person. In fact, maybe no other board members. But even injured he's got a sick amount of strength and if he wasn't injured he'd be top 10 on any of the DO lists that he targeted. I'm just trying to get him back into the bend of things and hopefully that left hand will heal up so he can shoot up the lists. Think he pulled on my Climber511 vbar that I got back from a good friend last month. Don't remember what he got or if he even gave it a shot today. He was more focused on the pinch feats and grippers. I had to harass him a bit to get him to try the bending. Told him he was closer to being back than he thought. Just remembered that he has never tried the Apollon's Axle. So I took mine out of storage and he pulled an easy 213 DO with room to spare. He only weighed @160 today...so not bad for a first time on that! I think he'll do somewhere around 100 pounds over bodyweight at the BBB3. That's my prediction. Quote
neilkaz Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Sounds like a fun time !! It wasn't so hot here near Chicago for Scott's GTG. Heal up GetaGrip and many congrats to you. Once you are healed you will cert all kinds of things ! Nice job.. neilkaz .. Quote
vikingsrule92 Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Sounds like an awesome time congrats to everyone. hey and you think you had it hot, we're in Arizona and Aaron's AC went out when the power went out and we were sweating to death. Quote
acorn Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 sounds like you guys had a awesome time too! Congrats on the PRs! - Aaron Quote ** Retired **
GetAGrip87 Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Thanks Guys!!! Had a great time gripping and talking with you Ben, looking forward to next time, maybe it won't be so hot then. Don't down play what you did today, everything I did you did much better. The GM1 is definately harder than I thought it would be, but I still got it. Felt great to get that over with. It felt really good to get the (5) 10's crossed off the list also. I love your 42.5lb blob, its perfect. Too bad I couldn't repeat my personal best. I couldn't believe I couldn't lift the 45 hub this time considering the damage I did to it last time. What I did with my medium #3, I wouldn't have just closed your #3 again, but would have destoyed it. Too bad. I didn't do any V-bar today, no good at it anyway. The Apollon's Axle was really cool to try. I could have definately gotten more, the grip wasn't the limiting factor, back pain was the undoing. 260 would be a hell of a pull for me, I can only hope. Ben offered to loan me the Axel, nice guy huh. I needed the encouraging Ben or I wouldn't test myself to see where I'm at in the bending again. The bend hurt horribly, but you know me, Push till something breaks. Not a good way to go about things, left hand is aching a bit right now. Go figure. No one has seen me bend in person except you, only like 3 people have seen me bend on video and those were for cert bends and to you. Left hand needs to heal up quick so I can train for the bending at the BBB3. I don't even know if anyone knows that I was at the BBB2 except you,John E, John B, and Travis M. lol. I won't just be filming this year. Quote Scott Harris Jr. 5'6" 150lbs. My Training Has Completely Switched Gears! 2012 Goals: ... Get Back to 154's 143's for Nationals???
