dimmers Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 After a few weeks away from bending, i started back up again the other night and worked up to a bastard (which i didn't get but got a decent bend in it Anyway, what i want to know is how much of a role does your back play when it comes to bending (DO in particular), the reason i ask is my lower back ached quite a bit after my bending session and i'm wondering if this should be trained more (i.e. dead lifts, rows etc etc)? I thought the main muscles used for bending were the shoulders, chest and arms but now i'm thinking it does even more cheers Quote
Crotchulla Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Well to get the most out of it you have to tighten your whole body, including the 'core'. Deadlifting is good for bending anyway, not exactly sure why though. So if you don't do enough of it right now, add more DLing and you'll bend bigger and bigger bars. bencrush Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 I think the lats play a part with a lot of other things involved, but I don't buy into the whole deadlift for bending argument. I am a terrible deadlifter and would have failed on 350 on the day I bent an Edgin taped to 3/16"X7" CRS. Not that everyone who recommends deadlifting is wrong, but I'd just recommend bending more. And when you're smoked on DO bending for the day, wrap up a few more easy bends and do them DU or reverse for a change and some more stimulation. Worked okay for me. Quote

I agree, I'm a terrible deadlifter as well (although that's only the case when lifting from the ground). I personally believe benchpressing and fly's have more turnover to DO bending then anything else. Quote Mark Vogels -------------------- "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right."
dimmers Posted July 14, 2007 Author Posted July 14, 2007 Ok, thanks for the comments and thoughts Ben and Mark! I do a good overall workout with weights anyway, and make squats my main focus as i think you get the best overall workout from them, but i've never really worked the dead lift that much so just wondered if i was making a mistake by missing it out of my workouts. thanks again Quote
Alawadhi Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 For me personally I don't think the lower back would help in bending. If you can deadlift huge weights and bend tough bars thats because your deadlift is strong not your lower back. I don't see the connection between lower back and bending workout (maybe deadlifts makes your shoulder stronger?). But thats me. Quote Read about me in my biography.
