verdigriz Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 (edited) Hi new to the board.just wondering how the HG grippers compare to the CoC grippers? myself i can close the 250 but not quite the 300. thanks for all comments. Hi, this question has been covered a quidmillion times and all the info you could possibly want is in the archives, awesome archives too. The short and curly of it, and the general consensus is, if you compare an HG to a COC, then you take off 50. So if you had a hg300 it would often fall into a 2.5 rating of a captains of crush gripper, an #2 COC would be like an hg250. That being said, grippers vary so much its better to just say this gripper I tried is harder for me to close then that gripper I tried. Variance in grippers is something else you will find in multi-abundance in the archives. Welcome to the board and have fun and play safe. Alawadhi Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 The HG varies a lot. But the HGs I have are hg100-easier than a trainer. hg150- between trainer and #1. hg200-almost like my #1. hg250- i remember the first couple of closes was harder than my #2, but after several closes it's 1.7. hg300-2.7. hg400- was very hard at first then it went to 2.1-2.2. hg500 is like 3.7 or so. pdfk20 Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 My HG500 is certainly harder than the no.4, due to the crazy big handles. Thought its easier to chest crush than my no.4 Quote Pete Kerr, 165lbs Goals: Close current hard #3 Dominate #3 again 16/06/12 CCS several hard #3's, MM2 replica etc #3 Cert MMS #3.5 Close a brand new #3.5 out of the packet MM3 100kg 2HP Finish in the top 3 in this years WSH under 82.5kg class

Thought its easier to chest crush than my no.4 I rated mine at 3.7 because i can easily chest crush it. I can't do that easily to a #4. Maybe thats why. Quote Read about me in my biography. Cannon Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Hi new to the board.just wondering how the HG grippers compare to the CoC grippers? myself i can close the 250 but not quite the 300. thanks for all comments. ...just my 2 cents to add, I have found the HG300s vary more than any other HG gripper. I've had two that started around a #2.5 level and seasoned down to around a #2 level rather quickly. Mostly because the spread was reduced to about 2" through normal wear. However, there is plenty in the archives where people report their HG300 to be at a #3 level or sometimes slightly harder. So, it's a crapshoot, but there is no doubt you'll get an inexpensive gripper that can provide a good resistence workout. HGs have been very valuable to my training. Quote
CoC#3 Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 generally speaking... HG100 - easier than trainer HG150 - easier than trainer HG200 - feels like a #1 HG250 - feels like an easy #2 HG300 - these vary more than any other HG IMO - i have felt many from around a #2 to harder than a #3. LOL! HG350 - i have not tried one. Dunkster reckons it's a bit harder than a normal #3 when i spoke to him about his HG350. HG400 - vary again, usually a little under a #3. Harder than the average #3 for small handed gripsters IMO. HG500 - harder than the #4 i use, and on par with my gr8 #4 but is harder to set because of the spread and big handles but about even at the close. Quote real name: Sam Solomi
dimmers Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Yep, another vote for the HG300 being the most unpredictable... mine is a tough one, well over a #2.5 Quote
neilkaz Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Yep, another vote for the HG300 being the most unpredictable... mine is a tough one, well over a #2.5 Mine is lots harder than my normal BBSM and a tad harder than my normal BBGM and would rate about a 3.0 if one calls a normal older black springed #3 a 3.0. The one I sold to Sybersnott a couple years ago was similar if I recall. .. neilkaz .. Quote
vikingsrule92 Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Mine feels about the same as my GR8 #3, around a 2.9 or so. Just a note it's only been closed around 5 times (chest crushing) so it hasn't seasoned yet. Quote
Condor Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 My HG300 feels equal or slightly harder than my HG350 The spread of the 350 was 7mm out of package... with only one chest crush it became 65mm! Quote
