timiacobucci Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Yesterday I kinked an Olympic barbell pretty good, but I did not do it on purpose. For a quick background I dislocated my left knee years ago and it has let go on me a few times since then, but it has not done it again in about a year and it has felt very strong since I began lifting again. So I was on the last rep of my 5th set of power cleans with 200 lbs and as I caught the weight on my shoulders my knee let go. The weight then fell directly onto my right thigh and bent the bar. The guy that took the x-rays at the hospital said I was lucky it didn't break my femur. I was pretty afraid that might have been the case at first when I saw the weight rolling away from me in a very wobbly manner as I was lying on the ground. I do have a rather large dent in my thigh muscle right above my knee though. I only needed a few stitches where it split the skin from the impact. I will try to get some pictures of the bar when I can borrow or get a camera. I'm not sure if you want to see my leg though, for those of you that still like doing cleans. So 1 1/4 " is possible, but it will sure require a hell of allot of conditioning because it damn near destroyed my leg. Quote

And it would have been better if it was on purpose, although I would recommend a slightly different technique Quote Mark Vogels -------------------- "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right."
timiacobucci Posted July 9, 2007 Author Posted July 9, 2007 Ouch!I hope your injury will heal soon! Thank you. And it would have been better if it was on purpose, although I would recommend a slightly different technique I agree. It sucks now but the more I think about it, my leg did NOT break, and the muscle and skin will toughen if submitted to progessively greater loads, so I feel with enough time and effort (which will obviously be needed to gain the ability to develope that much force in the first place) it is possible to bend a bar that size over the top of th leg. I'm not sure if rowing it over the top of the shin will work though, that is acting directly on a smaller bone. I'm pretty sure if the same thing had happen to me on that spot it would have broken. Am I crazy to see an injury like this as a kind of strength? Quote
