Chicago Grip Association - July Meetup

Recommended Posts

Posted

The July meetup of the Chicago Grip Association will be on next Saturday, July 14th, from 1-4pm. It's at my place in Darien, just off of I-55. I've emailed everyone who previously expressed interest. If you would like to attend, but have not recieved information on it, send me a PM.

I've got my wife's camera setup to get about 45 minutes of video, so if anyone wants to cert on something, we can do it. I have an order pending with FBBC for a 2" v-bar, bomb, and a "big squeeze" pinch barbell. John's going to try to get them to me by Saturday. I'd also like to give some of the contest events for Michigan a run though, since the competition is in 2 weeks. If any red benders show up, I've got some 1/2" aluminum for you to try. I think it is about the same difficulty as 5/16" CRS.

The last one was a good time, you can read about it here:

I'll be bringing the Blob 37.5 as that is one Scott doesn't have.

I'll be hitting Scott's 1' FBBC V-Bar asap and before I get tired from other stuff .. neilkaz ..

Rick,

You, Neil, and Paul (gaster) have confirmed. We are still on. I have not recieved my order from FBBC, so if you can bring the 2" v-bar, that'd be cool. Otherwise, I think we are good. I'll try and get some more videos of stuff this time.

I won't say too much until Scott gets his big post up here, but as always it was loads of fun. Great to meet Paul (gastor). Steve you and Allen were missed. Hope you can make it to the next one.

Was fun watching Rick(cabertosser) knock out a bunch of FBBC certs, but my most fun was me getting to FBBC's next V-bar level with 251 during my 2nd time doing V-bar (mine's on order but not here yet..and I plan to train for 300 and think I may get there) and getting 261 up ( I think enuf) but it ripped thru my hand, and likely won't count as I understand the rules (which do seem very fair to me)

Was a pleasure to meet Paul (gastor) and thanking him and Rick for the help with my pathetically inflexible (LOL I was lots worse a few months back) DO bending.

makey98 where in our area do you live ? Will be great to meet you next time.

I tried to get my 1/4" square bending step son to come, but he has a friend over...anyhow..he's kinking a bastard slightly and his DO techinique looks great to me ( I was I was 19 again) and I'm hopeful that I can have him come buy for a bastard cert in a month or two.

An awesome time, thanx to Scott's hospitality and wonderful garage gym .. neilkaz ..

Today was awesome. I set several PRs, learned some new things, and had a great time. I have about 2 gigs of video to get through, so we should have some good stuff to put up. I think everyone who was present either hit a PR or did at least one cert. More detail to follow once I get the video processed.

For those who couldn't make it this month, next month's will be on Saturday, 8/11, from 1-4pm. I hope to see everyone here.

Finished processing the videos. Today was a good time. We did:

2" Vertical Bar

1" Vertical Bar

Rolling Thunder

Unbraced and Braced Bending

Softball Lift

Highlights for me:

1. First time on 2" V-bar, got 125lbs

2. 1" V-bar - 166 Lefty (PR), 176 Righty (PR)

3. Learned to position my hands properly to transition a braced bend from the kink to crush, finished two pieces that previously stumped me

4. Bent a hard 60 DO with some coaching by Paul and Rick

5. Tried Rolling Thunder for the 2nd Time - Got 90lbs

6. Tried the Softball lift for the first time - Got 70lbs

7. Figured out how to easily get video for people lifting in the garage, still learning to quickly process it

Videos are below, lots of certifiable lifts in here by the guys. Neil should make it onto FBBC's 250 V-bar list, Paul onto FBBC's 200 V-bar list, and Rick onto 8 different FBBC bending cert lists. The amount of steel he massacred was sick.

Scott, thanks for the hospitality, it was a fun afternoon. Rick and Neil, very nice meeting you guys. Great job to everyone on all the PRs.

Rick is one big and strong dude and just tore through a pile of steel for certs. His one hand kept getting more and more swollen in the process, but it didn't seem to slow him down much.

I couldn't bend much because I have a swollen knuckle on one hand that's been giving me some problems, but Rick showed Scott and I how to properly post and crush a large spike. I could always kink the easy ones, but could never crush them before and now I think I figured it out. I was able to finish a previously kinked easy 12" galvinized spike. Later when I got home I did one of those easy ones start to finish.

Good stuff guys congrats on all the PRs and it looks like Rick is getting quite a good bender.

Scott thanks for hosting another great get together.Paul I was glad to here you did that spike start to finish.Once you get the technique down it makes it a whole lot easier.Gazza thanks for the compliment.Coming from you means alot.It is now tuesday and my hands are still sore. The swelling on the left has gone down some but my right hand is still real sore.I have a huge bruise on my right thigh from posting the horse shoe. It's about 8"x8" square and a beautiful shade of purple. It was all worth it to knock out all thise certs in a couple of hours.I am looking forward to the next one.I highly recommend you try to come out next time.Scott has a lot of cool toys to play with and it can be a great learning experience and a motivator.

Definitely sounds like you guys had a lot of fun. Congrats for all the PR's!
