BmoR Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 what would you guys say my grip strength is more suited for. I can hold up my deadlifts no problems (425 max) and hang cleans(205) but i cant close the no.1. Would this mean im more suited for pinching? Oh and i didnt say my maxes to brag I know there are alot of stronger ppl on this board, i just think they would help you get an idea. Make sure you go at LEAST a couple months because you should get a good base before you go into something advanced like KTA. Also, make sure you watch as many videos of grip feats as possible, I found that to help me with form and the proper way to do things. Quote
dimmers Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 I'm sure after a few weeks or so of training your crushing grip strength, you will make very quick gains and i'd be surprised if you didn't close the number 2 a few months down the line (going on your DL number) as viking said, watch some gripper closes on youtube and see how to 'set' the gripper properly, and make sure you get a good hand/wrist/forearm strength base before starting any intense grip workouts. good luck! Scott Styles Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 I first closed a #2 with a max dead of 225. Gripper strength is very specific to practice on the grippers. Quote You don't get a dog and do the barking yourself.
OldGuy Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Grippers are a thing unto themselves. A novelty that does not help your grip in general. No crossover or functional value. Quote Not afraid to ruffle feathers!
lifesnotfair Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 Grippers are a thing unto themselves. A novelty that does not help your grip in general. No crossover or functional value. Oh man... when I first bought the grippers and saw this video and the feats, and it was all new to me and exciting, I refused to believe this. But it's kindof true. I've come a long way, from barely closing my Trainer to closing the #2 (MMS), but my hands didn't feel stronger. ... so recently I've actually dropped grippers and I'm focusing on what would be the "compound" movements for the hand? (wrist, pinch, thickbar.. ???) I'm hoping my hands feel overall stronger even if I go back to not being able to close the #2, I bet later on when I pick grippers training again I will progress quicker. I tried to progress on grippers themselves while being weak overall (body and hand), and I think that's why progress was so slow. I'm stubborn so it took a long time for me to realize this stuff.. but now I'm sticking to what I think is more benefitial strength-wise. Quote
