liam.mccaffrey Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 got the rest of my package from john, thanks John wanted to pass on a few experiences and see if others agree'd bastards are way harder than any ive tried before, loads harder than new reds hexs are way way harder than the mcmaster hex i bent in april shinies are easier than the hexs. I have gotten 2 shinies to about 2.5" havn't managed to get a hex past 90º yet i love the bending game! Quote
liam.mccaffrey Posted July 4, 2007 Author Posted July 4, 2007 (edited) i'd (and dimmers) estimate these new bastards to be on the tough side of 480 lbs, anyone like to comment could eric get one calibrated, might be good to get a hex done too, they're super tough Edited July 4, 2007 by liamcafs Quote
dimmers Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Just checked the calibration list Eric does, and the bastars from April 07 were 450, so if you reckon these are alot harder then they could well be near the 475 -480 rating? That is a nice batch you got there then Liam! Quote
John Beatty Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I just picked up a load of 5/16 stock yesterday & it looks to be a mix of different stuff again, so we'll see what it turns out to be. There was the dark stuff, but some was lighter, don't know yet if it's the shiny softer stuff yet, as I haven't cleaned the grease off it yet. I tried to bend a little yesterday & my hand were still way too shot to do anything, so I won't be a good tester for a few days. Quote I like heavy things.
Alawadhi Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 (edited) 480 pounds bastard????!!!!! Thats good to train with. Can't wait to get my stock. Tim71 Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I wished some were those easier shiny ones again. I'd love to have some of those for shows since they look so darn good. I'm telling you that last hex I had felt like a brick. I'd be willing to bet as much as steel varies that some of John's hex bars have hit well into the 500+ pound ratings. I've had some recent bastards that were much tougher than the Mcmaster hex so go figure. Tim Quote
ox3782 Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 Kinda have an interesting situation as well smoe of the guys that bend with me can bend the Shiny 1/4 Square and cant touch the regular Steel 1/4 square? Brendan Quote Brendan Dwyer | 6'1" | 204lbs | 7 7/8 inch hand
gazza Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I love it when people say the shinys are nice an soft yet still cannot crush them to under 2inches I will bet that that hex once its moving will cave in easier than the shiny and that you will put it to under 2inches easier than the shiny. ox3782 Posted July 4, 2007 Posted July 4, 2007 I have not bent a shiny yet or even tried one.But last week I did try a generic Fastenal 5/16x7" stainless I did not find the kink to be easy at all and it stole all the energy from me at about 3.5 inches between the legs.I think calibration numbers do stainless no justice because its not the toughest part that is calibrated as the stainless gets angrier and agrier as you crush it and work it. liam.mccaffrey Posted July 4, 2007 Author Posted July 4, 2007 I love it when people say the shinys are nice an soft yet still cannot crush them to under 2inches im starting to want to hit the shinies all the the time now, i really looking forward to the day i finally finish one, it will be soon i also have some koasb which i will get one day. when i get one of those ill have to get a t shirt like gazzas "punisher of stainless steel" the slogan i'd like is " stainless is my bitch" Quote
ox3782 Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 I tied a shiny bastard today unbelivably mean three ten second hard hits and a three penny kink is the result.I did not find it to be soft at all I have some serious work to get strong enough to bend one of these all who has bent one of these are monsters. And Gazza you certainly are in a leage of your own with your bends Awesome stuff!!!especially bare handed shiny bends!!!
