pdfk20 Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Just received the RB330N. This is my next goal gripper. the spring is massive, and strongly resembles that of a no.4. Like all RB grippers, this one is very good quality, has great knurling and is generally well made. First attempts without chalk, i've gotten it to around a 1/4" from shut. I'm hoping that with some more training and some chalk i'll nail this puppy soon. Thanks to Tom for sending my the gripper, a very swift trade. CoC#3 Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 (edited) 1/4'' is really close on this gripper, bit of chalk and you might get it. The spring is identical to that of a #4, an RB330 is basically like a #4 so an RB330N is a very narrow #4. Edited June 25, 2007 by CoC#3 Quote real name: Sam Solomi

pdfk20 Posted June 25, 2007 Author Posted June 25, 2007 With a bit of chalk (and a strong cup of coffee!") i've gotten it to just over a 1/16" away from being shut, i will perservere, and hopefully report back with a video of me shutting it. One thing that makes it a tough gripper to close is that the setting stage is very stiff and drains the energy a bit. I rate this gripper a 3.5. lifesnotfair Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 What is it with coffee and training?? I've read in some people's logs about this... but to me, this sounds like shutting grippers between sets of squats... which is reported to enable people to shut tougher grippers... BUT, that wouldn't mean they could shut it any time of the day. Same with coffee... so you can shut it with two glasses of coffee.. but you're not drinking that much all the time now, are ya? :P Or does it help because even if you used coffee, your muscles/tendons/whatever at least felt the force and therefore your workout will be more productive? CoC#3 Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 I haven't had a grip workout without caffeine in over a year. So basically i have never even shut a #3 without at least some caffeine in my system. Quote real name: Sam Solomi

acorn Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Sometimes it still surprises me how much of a difference caffeine makes. I have been caffeine free for a few weeks now at the behest of my lovely new wife, and my numbers dipped quite a bit. At least I bargained with her that I could still use it for the occasional cert attempt and contests. - Aaron Quote ** Retired **

Bending suffers the most for me, followed by grippers, and everything else. I did manage to do a edgin last night un-caffeinated with smallish pads (for me) and no warmup, as well as almost closing my SE set at MM4 specs. Both PRs without caffeine. - Aaron Edited June 25, 2007 by acorn Quote ** Retired **

CoC#3 Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 (edited) Thanks for the info, Aaron, that's some great gripping, i have a 1/4'' mount SE and that thing is very very hard. MM4 setting is monster stuff. For UK guys if you have a 'LIDL' store near you they sell drinks of caffeine that are identical to red bull for 28p each. I find they give me more of a buzz than red bull itself. 32mg caffeine per 100mg. 'Superdrug' sells caffeine pills labelled 'pick up' much cheaper than pro plus 50mg per tablet, i was taking these all day at the iron grip. They work aswell. Yeah I reckon doing grippers during a hard squat workout adds about 0.1 - 0.15 to my gripper strength. But by enabling a slightly greater training load and subsequent adaptation response, it might result in being able to shut harder grippers at any other time. Nice work on the 330N Pete - Duncan Quote Duncan.
