Trigger Finger

Quick question really, as i know what the condition is and how it comes about, i just thought i'd post the question here to see if anyone else has suffered with it? If so, has it been long term, and has it caused you any problems in the long run?

I think i developed this condition due to lots of racket sports where you're constantly gripping a racket for 1-2 hours at a time, i.e. very repetitive gripping.

It has got a lot better with rest, but every so often it starts to come back especially now i'm training grippers more often (still only 1 - 2 times a week).

Anybody else suffered with this? any thoughts please.

thanks guys!

an article,

(i don't suffer from any pain with this by the way)

do not force it open, whatever you do. a guy at work did that and tore the sheath around his tendon and needed weeks and weeks of therapy to get back to work.

It's an easy, quick surgical fix, done under a "block" anesthesia. Find a good orthopedic/hand surgeon to do it.

Ooops, my bad- my post should've read "local" anesthesia, not "block". Too many long hours in the OR lately... they can just numb up the finger involved (a "local") , not "block" (i.e. numb up) the whole extremity. Mea Culpa.

got sort of same problem myself, i seem to develop a "click" on my right middle finger, but thats only under extreme stress (working at construction site and training grippers hard at same time). But when i cut down the amount of grippers it disappeared...

So, id suggest total rest for the finger and see if it fix's it before getting your hand under the knife...

I agree, rest has proven to be successful in the past and the condition has gone away completely, but then it does seem to come back sometimes but not as severe.

As i said in my first post, it doesn't cause me pain and only seems to occur first thing in the morning and then dissapears after about an hour. Looking back at previous posts, and on the internet i don't think it's anything to worry about as it causes me no pain, and the rest i gave my hand (from racket sports) seems to of eased the clicking, i think heavy gripper work has just awoken it again (but not as bad).

cheers everyone

My brother Brad had it and had the surgery. His deadlift was always held back by the condition. It took at least a year before his grip fully recovered from the surgery and started to improve beyond what it was preop. Since the surgery he has been fine and grip is much improved.

I had that problem 16-17 years ago - in several fingers of both hands. It appeared suddenly and it took 1 year until it disappeared without any therapy. I played tennis before entering the iron sport. In my 16 years of training I never had this problem again.

Thanks again for the input guys! I believe this has more to do with my racket sports more than anything because since i've stopped playing as much these days the condition has got a lot better and almost gone away.

I don't think i've got it as bad as some of the people you mention, but its good to hear from other people and what they know and their experience. Thanks.
