Jonathan Barlow Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 Once a piece of metal has a kink in it, it is easier to bend from that point on, right? If that is the case, how come it seems that on a max bend, you are able to kink a piece, but seem unable to finish it off? I have seen this occur with myself and with a friend of mine. Quote
gazza Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 Depends on a few things were your strength is,technique etc. Some people are very strong on the kink but week on the crush, others can be the other way round. Leverage plays an important role alot of people struggle with 7inch length pieces but can gat 6.5" and 6" pieces easy that largely leverage and lack of flexibility in the shoulders. you and your friend need to practise isos and lots of them with various prekinked bars and also work the crush with crushdown pads. You seem like a beginner so dont rush it enjoy the journey it will come just read and digest as much bending info here as you can thats probably the best advice i can give you and also watch and study lots of the bending videos here and on youtube its all here if you look. wscorpion Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 For me personally If I can kink a 7" piece, I can usually finish it pretty easily. If I try a 6.5" piece it will be about as tough for the kink as the rest of the bend If I try a 6" piece, I can kink it fairly easily but the rest of the bend is much harder. This of course only applies to maximum bends. For example: I can kink a 6" Red nail pretty easily, but it was quite a struggle to finish it. The 7" Red nail is quite hard to kink, but easy to finish. Just like Gazza said, train your weakest points, for me that's the 6" sweep and the 7" kink.... Quote Mark Vogels -------------------- "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right."
liam.mccaffrey Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 i find 7" stuff a lot easier i can kink 7" stuff way harder than i can finish my best bend in 5 mins is a bastard but i can kink a 7" edgin im working on finishing a 7" shiny Quote
Tim71 Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 Some steel varies too. I always thought my kink was my weakest area until I started getting the larger drill rods and trying the larger stainless and even some CRS. Some steel really ramps up and gets harder as you go. Drill rod is bad about giving you the first 5 or 10 degrees and locking up. Just my observation though. Good luck! Tim Quote
