ObsceneJester Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 ..is that a blue nail? Really wish I knew my K bars Quote Name: Rob H
liam.mccaffrey Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 not sure what that bar is equal too, but i used the following to progress to the red nail 1/4" stainless 5/15" HRS 8mm or 5/16" CRS Quote
wscorpion Posted June 17, 2007 Posted June 17, 2007 For me as I don't have as much steel available as most of the members here, this was my progression: - 5/16 round HRS - G8 bolt (one time only, I only had one) - 5/16 round CRS (comes between HRS and true CRS) - 5/16 round CRS - Red Nail Quote Mark Vogels -------------------- "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right."
Cunny Posted June 17, 2007 Author Posted June 17, 2007 Thanks for the replies. I think it's around the blue but not too sure. Liam where did you get those supplies you mentioned? Quote
liam.mccaffrey Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 i was lucky i got friendly with a local mahcinist who owned a small engineering work. He does a bit of machine work for me, he offered to add anyhitng i wanted to his next order so thats wheree i got my stainless and CRS HRS i got from the blacksmith Quote
dimmers Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 ebay has quite a bit of stainless steel for sale. I've bought a few lengths of 1/4" round stainless from ebay before, just be careful which grade it is, probably best to stick with grade 303 or 304, Gazza can probably give you more info on the different grades of stainless available in the UK and which are best for bending. Autolupus Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Here's a link with some stainless grades available: Welding tables. Probably won't help much but 304 and 316 are going to be the most common grades you'll find. Quote Mike Mackenzie. Luceo non uro.
Cunny Posted June 19, 2007 Author Posted June 19, 2007 I have managed tp put about a 30 degree kink in a G5 bolt today so am happy with my progress.Hands are very sore at the moment though so will lay off for about 4-5 days. Then try to finnish it off. Quote
bencrush Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Very nice man! Just getting the Grade 5s started is a big part of winning the battle. Quote
