makey98 Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 Has anyone tried this? I would like to work more on this, but I don't think that MOHS is quite clear. JB says that August carried a 32lb bag of coins for a mile w/o changing hands or setting it down. I got a couple of canvas coin bags from my bank and filled them up and they hold about 25lbs of pea gravel. He says to grab the cloth, not by the handle?? So do you think that he means a claw like hold from the top, or just grab the excess bag like a gripper or v-bar? He says if you don't have a bag take a bucket and tie a towel around the handle and grasp the towel as though you were going to wring water out of it..what does that mean?? anyone have a better description? Has anyone tried this? I tried it with a claw like grab from the top into the loose part of the canvas and I got about 100yds.....only 1500 yds and 10 more lbs!!! JB says that August carried a 32lb bag of coins for a mile w/o changing hands or setting it down. I got a couple of canvas coin bags from my bank and filled them up and they hold about 25lbs of pea gravel. That's what I have - it's a small canvas bag filled with #7 chilled lead shot which weighs 25 pounds. He says to grab the cloth, not by the handle?? So do you think that he means a claw like hold from the top, or just grab the excess bag like a gripper or v-bar? You claw hold it from the top or the middle of the bag. He says if you don't have a bag take a bucket and tie a towel around the handle and grasp the towel as though you were going to wring water out of it..what does that mean?? It would be like a thick towel handle held parallel to your body. I tried it with a claw like grab from the top into the loose part of the canvas and I got about 100yds.....only 1500 yds and 10 more lbs!!! Yeah, that's one way to do it. makey98 Posted June 16, 2007 Author Posted June 16, 2007 Has anyone tried this? Yes. Have you had any luck with it? I thought about trying to walk a mile (usually walk my dogs every day) with a 5 lb bag and microload until I get the 32lbs? Any advice? I would say start with a 10 or 15 pound bag and then SWITCH HANDS as you walk your doggies... you hands will get a workout; go as far as you can then switch hands - I'll tell you right now, you won't go as far as you'd like with just one hand, that's why you'll switch up after about 100 yards each hand or whatever distance you choose. Good luck! Quote "I have always been strong. I can only imagine what it is like to be weak" - Arthur Saxon "Success cannot be guaranteed. There are no safe battles" - Sir Winston Churchill
egg_uk Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 that sounds like a good workout for the hands, may have to try that. Quote Goals Get Stronger Lift what I haven't lifted Close what I haven't closed
MalachiMcMullen Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 I've tried something like this, I wrapped a towel around the handle of a 75lb DB and did timed holds. Got up to 1 1/2 minutes! Did this for almost a month and my forearm burned everytime I did it so I think it's a great exercise and it at least helped my endurance/crushing strength. Thought about doing a Farmer's walk kind of thing but to walk a mile! I think I'll try it. Quote Zach Coulter Goals #1- The Planche
