Couple Questions About The #4

Recommended Posts

Posted

I get confused with the switch to the GR8 springs and the switch to CCS. I'm curious:

1) Did Magnus cert CCS? (I'm thinking "no".)

2) Would Tommy or Magnus have certed on a GR8 #4?

3) Assuming "no" to the previous, has anyone closed a GR8 #4?

4) When was the last time anyone closed a #4 on video...Dave's quad attempt?

If anyone knows, I'm just curious.

Last #4 close on video i saw is someone (from the gripboard of course, can't remember who is he) who met Magnus and gave him his #4 to shut. Magnus closed the #4 easily.

Is that the clip from his "Strongest Arms" DVD?

No. That's why I said a guy from the gripboard met him.

Nope, one of those questions we can't know, AFAIK no, and I believe it was Dave's :upsidedwn

There is a natural order. The way things are meant to be. An order that says the good guys always win, that you die when it's your time or when you have it coming, that the ending is always happy-if only for someone else.

I heard about that in more than one place.

Thank you for that.

Actually, some dont believe that he closed it in "worlds strongest arms" But if you brighten the video a bit and slow down frame by frame, when he lifts it up at the camera, there is like 5 frames wich show the handles "clearly" touching. You can even see this in the web uploaded versions although not as "clear".

Yes, thank you!

In all my meandering of the GB archives, I've never come across that vid or even heard about it! Thank you.

To CCS the no.4, you have to be able to pretty much TNS it, since under the rules you have to hold it at a width of a CC, show the CC then close it, which is freakin ridiculous if you ask me. The man that adventually certs on the no.4 under the new conditions will have to be a grip monster!

Gr8 #4s are a lot harder. My brand new #4 which has a gr8 spring is almost as hard as the pro.

CCS #4 is do able i think a #4 cert will happen in the next few years.

Must be annoying, your SO close on the older #4 then out comes the GR8 one! I think it is only a matter of time before someone does it and watch it'll be a nice and easy close when the individual does it!

I have a 2001 model single stamp #4 that is everything a grade 8 #4 wishes it was. I have tried a grade 8 #4, it was tough, a lot tougher than some of my weaker ones, but not close to my 2001 single stamp. Joe Roark sent me a 4 a few years back that was every bit as hard as my BBWC, it was not a grade 8, it was an old one 1990's model I think. I have tried Kinney's #4, tough gripper.

How can you recognize what kind of spring is on it? I got mine half february this year, and of course it's very tough, but since I don't have anything to compare it to, I haven't got a clue which one I have....

Is it the same story with the #3? I got this one a month or so earlier so also this year.

Scorpion if the spring is shiny it is a gr8 spring. The old #4s have black springs.

Bearcat, yeah, grippers sure do vary! My statement was pretty much a generalisation though, i would say the same for #3s, it seems the ones with gr8 springs are tougher. If you don't mind, can i ask you how close you got on all the #4s you mentioned?

The grade 8 I got to around 1/2", not close by any means, but I was not training to close anything big. I could do negs with it easily, set with one hand push in and do a good neg. The old 4, I never moved from a set, ever, the only time I could even attempt a set was when I was strong on grippers. The day that I had the grade 8 #4 I attempted a negative with the old one, could not set it, had to brace and I could not force it closed without using my legs. The weaker ones that I have, well I have done quite well on those, but it has been awhile since I have even made a run for them.

Thanks for the info, Heath. What about Joe Kinney's #4? How did it compare with the gr8?

The grade 8 that I tried was solid on top where Joe's had some spring and then it became solid. If you were to no set them you would probably get more movement with Joe's and then it locks up. Joe's 4 ranks right with the grade 8's on the bottom end. His 4 does not have an easy sweep, it just does not have a brick like feel of the grade 8's.
