egg_uk Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 I bent a 5.5" 6mm round CRS today, quite easily i thought, but then tried a 7" 8mm piece and i couldnt budge it at all. So i went back and tried a 7" 6mm square, and couldnt budge that. I wondering whether my hands are fried from trying to take down the 8mm, they do ache, or whether there is a better logical step. Im gonna try a 5" 6mm round next time, and maybe do a few of those, to see if i can bridge the gap to the square stock. does that sound logical, or shall i hunt for some 7mm round. thanks in advance. Hopefully its just the hands that are fried and ill manage it next time. Quote Goals Get Stronger Lift what I haven't lifted Close what I haven't closed
dimmers Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 the jump up to 8mm crs is big, so i'd advise trying something in between. Fbbc do some nice progression stock, like the 1/4" hex and 1/4" stainless round. for the time being, it might be worth ordering some of these nails in bulk http://www.tool-net.co.uk/p-313510/tool-ne...wire-nails.html less than £1 for a kilo, good volume work. also check out the cheap carriage bolts as well, size M8 at different lengths will be a little tougher than the 6mm crs. egg_uk Posted June 1, 2007 Author Posted June 1, 2007 got 2.5kgs of the nails the other day, use them for warm up, they are quite easy. got some zinced 8mm threaded, so itll probably be about 6mm where it bends, im going to try that to see if its any harder than the 6mm standard stuff, ill look into a few different bolts and hope to get the 6mm square in the week or two. that 8mm is tough, definite target for the next couple of months, hopefully by the end of summer there will be some good movement. wscorpion Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 The threaded once are nice for progression, the 8mm HRS is, the G5 and G8 bolts and so is the 6mm square HRS, but i'm not sure if you can find it in the UK.... liam.mccaffrey Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 when i progressed i started on 1/4" stainless, 8mm or 5/16" HRS bars the HRS bars were not that much more difficult than the 1/4" CRS 1/4" stainless was a bit more difficult on the crush than CRS but as you get shorter lengths of stainless the start to feel more and more like G5's when i was able to get a 5.5" HRS i was able to get an 8mm CRS 7" round within 2 weeks Quote
