JoeGrip Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 I got some new gr8's yesterday, they had regular zinc ones and the yellow zinc ones. When I got home and tried them I melted the plain zinc one to 63 degrees and could only put a few degree kink in the yellow zinc one, the plain zinc felt just a touch harder than the 1/4" square because of its springyness, the yellow zinc was hard hard, it felt like I would get some good movement then it would just spring back. No clue what the brands are they both just had the standard 6 lines. Did a search on it and found this, http://reviews.ebay.com/INFERIOR-Grade-8-2...T:-1:LISTINGS:2, I dont know they are like those or not, but it would be interesting to know since their was a big difference in their strengths, it did bend kind of sharp for a hard bolt to, not much U in it, just thought Id see if anybody knows about them at all. Tim71 Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Wow, I never knew about a grade 8.2. I've got several varieties of grade 8 bolts. The easiest to bend is actually an American made bolt called nucor which cal'd at 445 lbs. The next is the JH bolts at 455 to 460 and the Lake Erie bolts hit 485 which is very high and plus they are the silver colored or zinc-plated. I have a small batch of triangle G8 bolts which I suspect were made with the L9 alloy since they're made by the same company and these cal'd at 495 lbs which is a freak of a G8. Most hit around 460. Are there no markings at all on the head of yours other than the 6 lines? That's unusual for G8 hardware. Tim Quote

Tim71 Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 On the head of the bolts that you bent, are there any initials or anything? How did the "easy" G8 compare to a grade 5? I've never seen any that fit that nitch. Tim Quote

The only bolts Ive ever seen with initials on them are gr2's, never gr5's or gr8's. Quote
