ObsceneJester Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Well since I haven't had much to talk about lately with my bends I just got my shipment of O-1 Drill rods in. This bend was a hard bend, but not a max attempt, tho when it got to the crushdown it was hard but not as hard as I thought, the bastards I've got are a lot harder on the crush then this. Some advice tho, should I continue to work my way down with this steel or should I just stay at the 7" length? Here is the picture: >>Click Me<< Quote Name: Rob H
dimmers Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 It can't hurt to cut some down a bit, work the crush a bit more? how you doing with the bastard Rob? Quote
ObsceneJester Posted May 24, 2007 Author Posted May 24, 2007 That bastard is still a good ways away IMHO. The crush on those bastards is a ton hard then the crush on these.. I haven't tried a bastard in a few days, I'm going to give it a go later in the week.. Quote Name: Rob H
bencrush Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Good job with the .295" Drill Rod! You got that stuff fast. How long did it take from start to finish? I would recommend going up in diameter, rather than just cutting the .295" DR down. Work on that 7" length strength. You will thank yourself for it later. Plenty of guys are very strong on the 6" lengths but not very special at all on the 7" length. Don't be one of those guys if you can avoid it. And it's entirely avoidable with the right training. The crush on that .295" DR has got to be pretty hard though. Even the 9/32" DR is impressive I think. Quote
ObsceneJester Posted May 24, 2007 Author Posted May 24, 2007 Yeah it was fast, but I guess it helps when you have a McMasters is 45 mins away. Well I have to say the first one I bent took under 3 minutes.. I bent 4 more of those after because I had too and you could tell that it really started to effect me.. I would take about 2 minutes rest between all the bends and they started to become a bother.. then tried that bastard and still a no go.. The last drill rod I did I managed to barely get it under 2" after I felt like I pinched a nerve or something, because during and after the crush for a few minutes my pinky felt like it went to sleep, so I stopped.. as much as I like bending, I like my pinky more If I went up anymore I would be at a .302 O-1, then 5/16 ectera ectera ectera.. Honestly I want something to work on with the kink, and I will start doing ISO work. The kink to me is my weak spot and I might order some .302 or 5/16 O-1.. tho I was trying to save up to get that York 35lb blob for sale so I'm still deciding Quote Name: Rob H
bencrush Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Right on Rob. That .295" Drill Rod should have felt quite a bit harder than the 0-1 stuff from what I've heard though. I guess it depends on what you want more now. Monster Bender or Monster Pincher? If I lived that close to a McMaster's I'd have to start robbing banks or something. Quote
acorn Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 (edited) If you wanna work your kink more Rob try 7.5" with or without something taped on. a couple workouts like that and you will be killing the 7" bastards. - Aaron Edited May 24, 2007 by acorn Quote ** Retired **
makey98 Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 Quick question for you drill rod guys. Which would be harder, a bastard or equivalent in drill rod? I guess that would be .3125 equivalent, right? Don't know if they make it, just curious... Quote Current Goals: COC #2.5 45# blob R-Grade 5/G8 DO Deck of cards <10 sec.
ObsceneJester Posted May 25, 2007 Author Posted May 25, 2007 Tim T said in another thread (He has bent both; a Bastard and 5/16 7" O-1) that the drill rod was his hardest bend to date I would say it depends...on what type? A-1, O-1 or W-1? A-1 I read was stronger then both, O-1 Tim said was harder to him and then the W-1, I bent a .302 7" W-1 two days ago and it wasn't hard at all Quote Name: Rob H
ox3782 Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 Nice Bending Rob that stuff looks and sounds like a nice hard bend!!! Brendan Quote Brendan Dwyer | 6'1" | 204lbs | 7 7/8 inch hand

Don't know if they make it, just curious... The 5/16" Drill Rod is definitely harder than the Bastards of the same length. In between a Bastard and the Stainless Bastards. When you can bend a 5.5" length of .3125" Drill Rod you should be able to kill a Magnificent Bastard. I'm referring to 0-1 Drill Rod. Quote
