Aobs Dinner

Who is going to the AOBS dinner? Will you be bringing anything interesting? I'll be carpooling up to NJ. I figure between us all there will be a roll of dimes, a strait jacket, some duct tape, lots of cards, a small safe with a secret inside and maybe a clown nose.

We will be there. We are traveling light, but will bring a small amount of chalk.

If you took the ages of all attendees, and divided that total by the number in attendance (roughly 250), I suspect I am below the average age. That is what AOBS is. The Gripboard attendees lower the average significantly. Hell, Joe Rollino alone is probably four times the average age of Gripboard members (he is 102).

Who I am most interested in seeing, and I don't know is if he will be there, is Bud Greenspan. He is the sports documentary filmmaker whose work I admire more than anyone's writing, art, music, or movies. His first film was a 1952 piece on John Davis, the Heavyweight Olympic champion from 1948 and 1952 in WL. Greenspan was friends with Davis, who died around 20 years ago. Rumor is AOBS was trying to get a copy of Greenspan's film to show at the dinner. Greenspan lives in NY and gets the AOBS newsletter, so I am hoping he will be there. He gets over 50K per speech from Fortune 500 companies. He is an 80 plus year old still cranking out his work. If you did not see his Showtime movie from Athens 2004 that featured a powerful story on Pyros Dimas, you have no idea what you missed.

On the one hand, I don't think he will be there. On the other hand, in a sense he owes his career to John Davis, who is being honored posthumously, and it would seem like he should be there to soak in a special moment. Greenspan, and I am not kidding here, is my idol.

I look forward to the John Davis part myself, I also look forward to the olympic demo, and Mighty Stefan performing in fact I didn't even know that he does perform anymore. I knew he did in the past. I knew he was an MC and a rapper. I saw him get kicked off an M TV show looking for white rappers. I thought he did much better than anyone else there, maybe he should have bent something while he rapped.

I think us strongmen need to multi task now days, hence why I've made an attempt at humor lately.
