What do you all think?

Also what particular strength feat (not necessarily from the list) do you think would appeal most to the general public as in something they can relate to?

Most impressive grip feat for me, is closing the no.4. Having owned one i know how frickin impossible it feels, it stupifies me that anyone can weild enough grip to close one.

Most people i speak to about gripping, haven't ever heard about it before, but if you mention the grippers they know what you're talking about, so i guess it would have to be the no.4 for that as well.

Pete Kerr, 165lbs

Goals:
Close current hard #3
Dominate #3 again 16/06/12
CCS several hard #3's, MM2 replica etc
#3 Cert
MMS #3.5
Close a brand new #3.5 out of the packet
MM3
100kg 2HP
Finish in the top 3 in this years WSH under 82.5kg class

I didn't include a #4 close in the poll as i honestly don't think it is achievable for everyone. Only a few will ever reach that high IMO. I think you have the potential To get there eventually Pete (as long as it's a narrowish #4 ;) ) The rest of the list (with the possible exception of the inch because of hand size) are achievable for most who are serious about grip. If we are to include rare feats that are for the majority 'unachievable' the most impressive (to me) is Wade Gillingham's 3 35s pinch. Especially considering that out of all the strongmen i have trained with no one even managed to lift 3 25s off the ground.

I voted for the BLOB. Because the inch is also not achievable to everyone. The rest is achievable if you really train hard. Plus the BLOB is the test of hand strength. From pinch to crush. Many of the BLOB lifter are able to TNS a CoC #3.

It's not a "Classic" but rafter walking, for me, has to be one of the most impressive grip feats and one that most people can understand the strength involved. ;):D

I voted for the Inch. Grippers and pinch are very specific. The Inch is just raw forearm strength (no technique). It's even more impressive with a smaller hand.

''do you think would appeal most to the general public as in something they can relate to?''

Something they can try or see and understand. Grippers rarely work like that because a tough gripper is just tough to them - regardless of what its strength is.

rolling up frying pans would appeal to the general public i guess. voted for the inch tho.

Goals! :

Dominate the #2.5 and BBSM Done!

The Inch! When I finally got to see one in person and gave it a go, it surved me a nice warm slice of humble pie. Sure, ripping phone books and decks of cards are awesome too, but the Inch is reserved for the elite.

Because you put the disclaimer "appeals to the general public"

Most impressive for me is 2 45's -as for the general public I don't know - I long ago stopped trying to predict the general public. Deck of cards/phonebook maybe?

I think the general public would relate most to bending a red or tearing two packs of cards. Nails and cards are things most people have had some experience with and could wrap their minds arounds the difficulty level of those feats.

I personally voted for the inch.

Two 45's is what I find the most impressive. But I would think ripping two decks of cards would be the most impressive to the general public.

Goals:

To be stronger then I was last week.

As i'm really into bending steel i think for me, Gazza's bare handed bend of a shiny bastard equivalent was very very impressive!

I voted for the blob though, as i believe that (along with the inch) would impress the general public the most.

(two decks of cards would get a big wow factor though for sure)

I voted the inch out of those listed most impressive feat i have seen was mobsters millenium bell lift i think the public would go for the red nail or cards or the inch bell if in public as theres something thats so impressive about handling that black beast then seeing it lifted.

Cheers Gazza but the thing to remember for us grip and strength nuts is we know how hard some feats are to do. Anyone who does a show knows that it is what the feat looks like as much as the amount of effort required. A nail then becomes as hard as an IM Red to those that cannot bend either. A thick handled dumbbell as hard as any Inch or Millennium dumbbell. Any odd shaped block of steel as hard as a 'blob'.

It needs to be difficult - so that Joe Public or his strong mate cannot do it - but visually good as well. Hence a 1000 page book tear is not as good as a 1500 page tear.

With grip guys and strength nuts you have to go with how hard something is to work towards. That makes me think 100 IM reds in an hour and to the point where skin starts to flap off the hand gets a vote. Gazza's psycho level short steel bends. 3 x 45-lbs or similar. My Millennium (still a short list even though it can be trained for). Any half decent 4 close - esp the wider versions like Joe Kinneys. Pressiong (any form) an Inch or better. Farmers walking Inches and so on.

I have pressed 75kg with a 7ft 2'' bar. I am pretty sure i'll be able to press my inch when i get it.

Thanks for all the votes guys. i voted for the inch aswell.

I don't think the general public knows much about grip training, even among "lifters." First time I brought my IM grippers to a gym, everyone thought they were just the usual sport store "toys." not "real lifter gear" as one of the "big guys" said. However when I closed the 1.5 and he couldn't finish off the 1 he changed his mind. However I think for myself that a one handed press is the most impressive. Particularly if it looks massive, and has a big handle so most people can't even hold it. The circa dumble press, and other feats hold a huge wow value for me, and I think the public also.

I voted for the #3.

Pretty much b/c I just got my #3 in the mail, and it's an absolute beast.

I'm sure the others are just as/more impressive, but as of right now, I'm going with the #3.

If you're going through hell, keep going.

This is a tough one to call because there are so many factors to consider.

Those with Above Average Size Hands have a distinct advantage on the BLOB, INCH if they have enough strength to go with it.

RED Nail - Well steel varies as they say

CoC #3 - Again the Grippers Vary

Pinching 2x45s well that is impressive to me

Tearing 2 decks of something like Bees or Bicycles is probably going have a fairly level playing field as far as hand size goes but those who really practices and using micro-loading of the cards in pursuit will definetly have a advantage over some one who occasionally rips a deck no matter how fasat they can do it. This has some technique that has to be fiqured out on ones own to get the most out of the energy they expend.

I am torn between a couple of these but hey that is why people do specialized training to accomplish a particular feat of strength and get good at that one but only mediocore on others. NO ONE IS MASTER OF ALL that I have seen but a few come close and will keep pushing towards that goal

I went for the 2x45's as that is one lift that I really want to get but I find lifting the millennium super impressive and my own personal favourite as I've messed around with that thing so many times and still can't fathom how Steve gets it air borne as it feels as though someone's welded it to the floor when I try. But I'll keep trying and one day I'll get it! As for the public I still think the usual telephone books, cards, frying pans and popping cans seem's to captivate them as they are every day objects that people come into contact with and see as pretty tough and resilient then watch you destroy them with your bare hands.

Goals

Cert on #3

Lift Inch

I picked the blob as most impressive to me, because for me working (still trying) to lift my 45# blob shows me that anyone who can lift that 50# blob has got some serious serious strength. Also, I have never had a chance to try an Inch or any thick handled dumbells so I don't have any perspective.

As far as the general public, it is kind of tricky. To the general public, a #2 feels about the same as a #3. The blob lifts are deceptive because it feels like it is glued to the floor but if someone can get a 30# blob, they think that with a little bit of work they could lift the extra #20 pounds and get the 50# blobl. They don't realize that a 10#-20# increase in blob strength may take months and months to years of work. I tore a deck of cards for some friends and they were mighty impressed and it took me about a full minute so I would have to say that the cards or phone book tears are the most impressive to the general public.

I would say that a red nail or bastard bend is appealling to the general public, but in reality they can't tell the difference between 3/8'' aluminum and a red nail! If you have never tried the metal, all of it looks the same. A grade2 is the same as a g5 to most people.....

Current Goals: COC #2.5

45# blob

R-Grade 5/G8 DO

Deck of cards <10 sec.

I've never saw an Inch so it's 2 45s for me. Especially the way Underdawg did it. Passing them behind his back like toys!

For the public, 2 decks of cards.
