I'm In The July Issue Of Muscular Development

Yep - he might be 'oil filled' but he is 'good people' as they say. As part of an ongoing means of promoting www.musculardevelopment.com Greg offered some time back to give space to the forum members. Being shy and retiring... ;) I leapt at the chance.

Today I had a PM from Greg and I put together 150 words or so about myself and old skool training (spit, chalk and sawdust). I mentioned the British Grip Championships and included a picture by a friend of mine taken of me V-Bar lifting the 173.5-kilos I did at the Peter Horne memorial day event.

I just had a reply and he says 'it's in!'. Sweet.

I may also get a short article (500 words or so) printed as I won their online competition. I wrote about a visit to 'roid guru' Mick Hart's office. Look out for that as well. But in the mean time - grip is in!!

Congrats Steve! That is some good exposure you got there, and the sport! :rock

edit: I bet if you would have gotten the chance, you could fill the whole Muscular Development issue at once with the way you talk! :tongue

Being shy and retiring... ;)

If that ain't the understatement of the year, then I don't know what is! :D

But in the mean time - grip is in!!

FINALLY!!! :bow Someone who's gonna tell it "like it is"... I'm tired of reading all these pansy grip articles about wringing towels and squeezing tennis balls for grip strength! :rolleyes

Ahh it's not an in-depth piece. It is, as above, a MD forum member profile. I'll paste it below as I sent it and underline the bits ya might like.

Name Steve Gardener

Forum member name: Mobster

Hometown: Gloucester, England (formerly London)

Age: 43

Years Bodybuilding: 28

Goal for the future: I have so many. In less than two weeks (May 19th) I hope to retain my title as British Grip Champion. We also have a little hardcore training camp here (loads of weights and strongman equipment) and if we can help others attain what they want as well – well it’ll ensure the future of old ‘skool’ spit and sawdust gyms here as well as in the USA – no alarms go off in our pit when you use chalk!

Favourite Bodybuilders: I’m very old school so Arnold first, Dorian, Bertil Fox, the Barbarian twins. Of the modern guys Ronnie and Branch Warren.

I love the hardcore black and white photos of Ronnie, Branch and back in the say Arnold training in dusty gyms surrounded by rusting equipment and in clothes frayed by cables and hard training. The two gyms I use here (ours and Gymnation) are chalk friendly. Work outs in our yard with the huge concrete stones grazing our forearms, chalk all over the floor and 150 & 200lb dumbbells scattered about while a rave tune pumps out of our stereo - permanently set at '11' , us yelling at each other to get another rep are the way all workouts - at least the best ones - should be.

As above the photo I sent was one taken by Tania Squires and is of me pulling 173.5-kilos on the v-bar.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZtrhrzAIcU - this doesn't require any grip strength then? i used tennis balls to train for it, you can get some that are practically rocks

steve - nice!
