Tim71
Thanks to the generosity of Mike Handland I got to try the infamous 8 inch FBBC spike last week. He sent me two and I got the first one but it was a little over 5 minutes and I wasn't sure what the time limit was on spikes so I did the other one and got it well under 5. I videoed it old fashioned style and sent a DVD to 3 people; John Beatty for official verification, Mike Hadland and Gator for posting on his site. Sorry guys but I'm in the sticks and dial-up is the only real option here. Mike contacted me and he's watched the vid so I'm pretty excited about getting this bend. It's one I've wanted for a long time. Now when my FBBC order arrives I'll have to go back and get the 10 and 12 ha ha! I guess I like doing things backwards! Big thanks to Mike for the spikes. I really appreciated it buddy! I'm sure the video will be up on Gator's site shortly. He should get the DVD any day now. It was a pretty good fight I'll say that. John picked the right kind of spikes for his site. They are tough. Tim
gazza
A BIG congrats excelleny work TIM those are tough its an elite list there probably the toughest i have tried also.
Booyah!!!
Thanks for the ShoutOut Tim!!!! That 8 inch FBBC Spike is quite the accomplishment. Your Video Kicks A--!!!! You have given me new hope that one day I might be able to get it!!!! Congrats Tim on being the King of the Hill on Spike Bending
John Beatty
Got the vid & CONGRATS! the very first cert, not many chances to do that on the FBBC certs unless you're Gazza anymore. Motivated me & I went out & smashed a 10" spike for the first time, did it twice with 2 different styles. Tried an 8" & got a warp, but no real action. Again Congrats! gazza
Ive tried about 8 different 80ds or 8inch spikes whatever you prefere to call them and those are definately the toughest regardless of how you bend them once again TIM thats an ELITE spike bend congrats bro. Tim71
Yee hah! The official word for the man himself. I can relax now and rest easy. My wife is sick of me being on pins and needles but I REALLY wanted this bend and wanted it to be official and I worried about the DVDs not working right or getting lost in the mail etc. Thanks guys and congrats John on the 10 incher. That is a serious bend in that brand of spike. Gazza. Definately the consistantly toughest spike I've run acrossed. The mazels are close and the tree islands are pretty close but these are brutal. They are severe but doable. Thanks again guys! Tim
antarath
Congrats Tim!!! I could hardly believe what the title said Amazing! Mats
Tim71
Thanks Mats! Always good to hear from a fellow steel bending / variety enthusiast. First bend piece of steel I've ever considered mounting on a piece of wood or something corny like that. It's a bend I've wanted since I first started bending and at first I considered it impossible then after seeing Don Larkin do one of another brand I knew the size was possible but still thought that the FBBC ones might not be doable since I knew there was a HUGE difference in the difficulty of the 12 inch FBBC and the other brands. gazza
TIM Mount it you earned it and you can count the number of people on one hand that have done those its a great trophy to keep.
ObsceneJester
Uh oh Tim.. Unbraced and Braced and the #1 to do it as well? I have a 10inch spike and that thing isn't even moving for me so great job

Alawadhi
Well done! Are those FBBC nails harder than the ones you bent?
EricMilfeld
Tim, a big huge congratulations to you! That spike never was on my list of things to try!
Tim71
Thanks guys and thanks Eric for suggesting the spikes to me over a year ago. Alawadhi, these spikes are the toughest I've run acrossed. Even the 12 incher has a suprising feel to it. WAY harder than the galvanized griprite variety. You want to tackle the toughest of spikes contact John for these bad boys. Tim71
Gazza, I'm kinda partial to the 80d or 80 penny name too. For some reason it just sounds old-school or something even though 8 inch spike is probably more accurate. A word for everybody buying spikes. I know some of the guys have been bending the shiny griprite spikes which I have used those too. I was just in a store the other day and was going to buy some and I opened the box (5 lb) to check them out and they are different now. They look exactly like a mazel which if that's the case then they should be much tougher than the older shiny style with the dull point. These new ones said shiny spike on the box and they weren't galvanized but they had a finish more like a FBBC; kinda dull. Like I said it looked identical to the mazels to me and all 3 lengths were the same new style. Just thought I'd pass that along that you might want to crack them open before you load up. Tim71
Anybody ever find out what kind of 80d it is that Don Larkin uses? I'd love to try one of those legendary nails but I'm wondering if he's had them a long time or what. I'm nowhere near that area so attending the comp is out of the question. AP
I'm not sure what brand they are but yeah they're real old and rusty. They're tough, I haven't quite finished off the one that Don gave to me, got to get a little stronger.
Tim71
Thanks AP! Would it be possible to post a pic of it or something like that if not too much trouble. By the way pass the word to Don that his bend really inspired me and was the first to show me that it was indeed possible to bend an 80d. I wasn't sure it was possible for while. Thanks again! AP
I don't have a digital camera at the moment. I'm sure we'll get one at the contest in july but I'll see what I can do before then...
RPGoodfellow
HUGE bend!!! Congrats. I'd love to see this vid. Has anyone posted it yet? Goody
Tim71
The video is Gator's baby. I mailed him a DVD with it and several other bends on it and he's suppose to post it on strongmanfeats.com once he figures out how to transfer it. I don't know if maybe the size may be giving him trouble too. The bend itself was over 4 minutes long (it was very tough) plus the unwrapping and all that. I'm not very computer savvy so I don't know what's involved. I just know that I've got an old computer with dial up so I couldn't download it. It's much tougher than the average 80d nail I'll say that. There is a pic in my gallery though. Tim Here's the pic. The small nail is a 60d for comparison.
