nickr104 Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 Well today I got my first 10"spike. It was a shiny gripright spike from TSC. Very very hard! I worked on it 2 times befor I was able to do it. I got a good kink on it the first time but the crush down was not happening. Went back to it aroud 6 hours latter went for the crush and I felt it move a little, so I hit it agian. Took about 3 hits befor it got it to a point where I was able to chest crush it. The key for me was I needed to push on it a little longer than I wanted to. I start feeling like this thing is never going to move and want to stop. I told myself keep it up just a little longer and the best feeling in bending happened that steel stared to move. This has been a long time goal for me. I will try and post a pic later today. Quote Nick RosendaulI am a Upser"I slept with John Eaton and lived to tell about it!"

gazza Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 Nick Congrats on a big PR and you are right to keep pushing thats when the steel is fighting back but if you push long and hard enough it will give in thats were alot of people fail they cannot apply the power for a certain time thats were the isos and muscular endurance come in. nickr104 Posted April 29, 2007 Author Posted April 29, 2007 I have 1 FBBC 10" spike here. John gave it to me at the BBB last year. I think I will give it a little time befor I try it. See if I can get some more of the easier 10" under my belt first. Maybe do one all at once first Thanks guys! Quote Nick RosendaulI am a Upser"I slept with John Eaton and lived to tell about it!"

Booyah!!! Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Hey, have you tried an easy 9 inch? Quote I Love Bending Steel http://www.youtube.com/user/booyahbender
cabertosser Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Booyah what is an easy 9"?What is the progression for spikes?I have tried a 12" galvanized from home depot and got it to around 45 degrees.Could you or someone else list the spikes by size and brand? Thanks. Quote
Booyah!!! Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 I meant a an easier 12" or 10" Griprite type cut down to 9 " to help the strength curve to help get the FBBC type/ keystone type 10 inch. FBBC 10 inch is no walk in the park and is a real Bastard to bend. The 8 inch FBBC spike is so friggin hard and is one sick Bastard. I believe it is going to take someone that is really on their Game to get this one. I only know 2 Brands /types The Griprite type are typically easier than the Keystone type. 12"griprite 225lbs, FBBC 12" 290 these are listed on the bottom of the calibrated Fat Bastard stock list in the Pinned area Quote I Love Bending Steel http://www.youtube.com/user/booyahbender
climber511 Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 I believe an "eazy" 9" spike is called an "oxymoron" Quote When people used to ask him how it was he became so incredibly strong, it was always the same, "strengthen your mind, the rest will follow". Booyah!!! Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Indeed it is Quote I Love Bending Steel http://www.youtube.com/user/booyahbender
Tim71 Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Here's the progression I've come up with. First the easiest ones I started on are the spiral cut spikes in the 12 inch length. There is a 14" spike but it's real hard to find. Anyway, I've seen the 12 inch spiral ones from 3Gs, griprite and that's about all I can think of. Then the galvanized from griprite in the 12 inch length is the easiest full thickness non-spiral spike I've done. Then there was a galvanized that I got from home depot that made a slightly sharper bend than the griprite and was a little harder. Probably what you got. From there it was the shiny griprites, then the mazel then the keystones or FBBC spikes in 12 inch. Then just repeat the process in the 10 inch length in the same progression then if you make it past the 10 inch FBBC which not alot do then do the same thing with the 8 inchers. Hope this helps! cabertosser Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Thanks everybody. Now it's time to hunt these down.Where are you guys buying your spikes? Are you ordering them or are you getting them from the home depot and places like it? Quote
nickr104 Posted May 4, 2007 Author Posted May 4, 2007 Tractor supply CO. or the home stores , and FBBC have been where I got mine. Quote Nick RosendaulI am a Upser"I slept with John Eaton and lived to tell about it!"
Tim71 Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Thanks everybody. Now it's time to hunt these down.Where are you guys buying your spikes? Are you ordering them or are you getting them from the home depot and places like it? FBBC is the place to buy the meanest and toughest. Besides if you'd ever want to cert on his spikes then you have to use his spikes. For the other brands, lowes and home depot usually carry the griprite level ones. Most Ace hardware stores carry spikes but they can vary alot. Tractor supply usually has Mazel spikes which seem to be the next toughest to the FBBC ones. Any place like those you may get lucky at. I've also bent tent spikes that can help lead the way. Just remove that plastic anchor piece and you've got a nice 10 inchish spike that's quite a bit easier than a regular 100d. If you get the "easiest" 12 incher you can find and still have trouble with it then go to a steel warehouse and buy some 3/8 hot rolled steel and cut it to 12 inch lengths. It's noticably easier than even the galvanized griprites. Hope this helps. Tim Quote
