mongo02 Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 I hate to bother you guys with a newbie question but I was wondering what difference the wrapping makes. I noticed on some of the members information they had goals to bend the red nail with leathers and to bend the red nail with IM pads. I only have the IM pads, is it more difficult than using leathers? If so should I invest in leather raps and attempt to bend the red with them? Quote
Alawadhi Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 (edited) IM pads are harder to bend because it causes pain. But if you are used to it then you wont feel a thing except for your max bend. Thick leather is GOOD for bending anything above huge bastard IMO. Except if you have goals to bend very hard steel in IM pads. Thick pads also give a bit of leverage on the kink only. I say stay with the IM pads until you can bend a bastard or the red nail. Also if you can bend lets say a red nail in leather under 1 minutes then bending it in IM pads (if you have the toughness) will be much easier. I guess the thick pads absorbs (sp?) your power while IM pads steels very little of your power if any. My best bastard bend in leather pads is 45 seconds. But by best bastard bend in IM pads is 12 seconds. Weird isnt it? Chalking your pads is great and especially IM pads. It will help a lot. Plus chalking your hands is also a great idea if your hands are sweaty like me. You don't want your hands to slip and punch your face so hard that when you wake up from sleep the other day you will find your face have a big black spot. Last thing, Wrapping the pads tighter will make the bend easier because your power wont be lose in the air between the pads. Edited April 26, 2007 by Alawadhi Quote Read about me in my biography. Tim71 Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 You should try the leather in my opinion. The vast majority of people use leather and to me it's better all around. Only thing with IM pads is that is what you have to use if you want to cert with IM on the red nail. Tim Quote
Jedd Johnson Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 The competition standard is leather, wrapped tight, chalked on the inside, and sometimes double layered. This method is also used for Fat Bastard certification. The certification with IronMind, for the Red Nail requires that the blue cordura wraps be used only, with minimal chalk and no other wrapping, no leather, no rubber bands or anything. Towels can also be used, but they rip and don't offer much padding. -Jedd- Quote The GOLD STANDARD Feat in Plate Pinching: 2x45s Pinch Get Your Copy Here: How to Pinch 2x45s Ebook Diesel Crew Store: http://www.dieselcrew.com/store/shop
gazza Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 IM pads are harder to bend because it causes pain.Bending in small leather wraps causes pain also alot of people are now under the impression that everybody or most that use leather are now useing handlebar wraps when this is not so there is a world of difference pain wise in handlebar wraps and the wraps that Pat uses. But if you are used to it then you wont feel a thing except for your max bend. Thick leather is GOOD for bending anything above huge bastard IMO. Weird isnt it?Yes Ironmind wraps are painfull but help develope the hands the main reason most dont use them is they are a pain to wrap for the DO style but not as bad in Reverse or DU style use both from time to time to get the hands used to it and you will be ok.
