khfm865 Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Hi All, I have been progressing nicely on my HG400. In the last month I have gone from 1 rep to 11 reps. Thought I would post a little as to how I did it. Trained with grippers once a week. I feel that any more on my hands and my finger tendons get overly sore and strength progress stops. This workout consists of the following: 1 set of 20 reps with cheap nasty gripper (easy) 1 set of cc 2 for 15 reps 5 sets of maximum rep attempts with HG400 2 sets of cc 1.5 - lots of reps I do one day on the rolling thunder. This is after my dynamic effort squat day for any powerlifter west-siders out there. 1 set of 60kg for 5 reps 3 sets of singles up to new maximum each week That is it for grip work. I feel sure that lowering the volume of the work has been my greatest decision. Some might disagree, but from personal experience I would say to go from 1 rep with your goal gripper to 11 reps is proof in the pudding (for me anyhow). I managed to get an HG500 #17 fyi. It is an animal. Not even beginning to sniff it and I never will I can assure you that. I stupidly thought that 11 reps with HG400 might allow me a chance. I am not joking when I say I would need around 50 reps and some - it would be like comparing a trainer with a cc #4. mobsterone Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 There is no comparison between the two and even 50 reps with a 400 would not help. Quote Steve Gardener, British 2006/2008/2009/2010 champ, 117.5kg 2HP, Euro 2008 & 2010 champ
knyaz Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 going from 1 reps to 11 on any gripper is very impresive Quote Steve Pekarskiy
CoC#3 Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 good work on the HG400 but the 500 is a whole new animal! Mine is harder than my #4 and is also very hard to set! I rekcon the only athletes who have a shot at closing the HG500 are those who can close the #4 regularly. Quote real name: Sam Solomi
pdfk20 Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Impressive work on the HG400, i can only squeeze on rep out of mine, but then i don't work volume at all really. On the hg500 front, im only 3" away from closing it, so should get it any day now i have managed to go from 1 chest crush to 10 reps chest crush with it. khfm865 Posted April 27, 2007 Author Posted April 27, 2007 My HG500 is a comedy animal. Its spread (from inner handles) is 95mm - to set that thing is darn hard. I am going to have a blast at chest pressing. I presume that is feasible? cheers Quote My YouTube Channel - follow my journey... http://www.youtube.com/user/khfm865?feature=mhee
