Tim71 Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Last night I got the 5/16 by 7 inch hex sent to me by Ben Edwards (thanks) in well under 5 minutes and well over an inch off centered. Today I tried the 5/16 drill rod which cal'd at 475 lbs but man the crush was alot harder. I got it but it was a long drawn out 20 minute battle filled with unwrapping and measuring and rewrapping. Boy that stuff will give you a good workout and maybe be a good appetizer for the stainless. I did try the shiny bastard and got it to well under 90 degrees but whew it beat me from there like a dog. Just need to work more at it. drill rod and hex bend Tim Quote

jaccord Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Great bends Tim! Man, that 5/16 drill rod sounds like a beast. Does it have a lot more springy-ness to it compared to CRS? I've never tried any drillrod. Josh Quote
Tim71 Posted April 25, 2007 Author Posted April 25, 2007 jaccord, Yes it has more springiness and that translates into a crush that is alot tougher. It's not as bad as the stainless though but definately a good step from CRS to stainless. Kinda like a junior stainless you might say. Or one might say it feels between crs and stainless. It's a fun thing to try and definately gives the ol' crush a workout. The first half of the bend was only a little harder than the new hard bastards or red but then end was viscious for me but then I tried a shiny bastard and only got it to a little under 90 degrees so it's still tougher. Tim71 Posted April 25, 2007 Author Posted April 25, 2007 jaccord, One more thing the drill rod is available in a ton of sizes and for instance the 9/32 really helped me get to the bastard level. It's calibrated at 355 for a 7 inch piece. I've got a 11/32 piece but I know it's well beyond me right now. Tim Quote
EricMilfeld Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Awesome progress, Tim! Congrats on some very fine bending! Quote
acorn Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Good stuff Tim, I love drill rod. I wish I was independently wealthy and could afford to train with it all the time. I'm currently working on a .358x7 one and have it down to 2.5". Its definately a great workout. - Aaron Quote ** Retired **

liam.mccaffrey Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 is that McMaster Hex that Ben sent you, he sent me a piece too its beyond me for the moment but i got it to 25 degress in 1 hit. I ran out of steam then, it was at the end of a big bending session. Ben said he thought it was quite a bit harder than a Hexabastard. good efforts on the drillrod Quote
