ObsceneJester Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Well I decided to do some bending today as my hand and forearm were feeling better.. Warmed up with some 6.5" 1/4 Finally got the G5 but I had to double wrap it (IM pads and leathers that John sent me) and that thing was still hard.. I then bent some 5.5" 1/4 Hex and I have to say, every .5 you take off that steel is like a world of difference.. I bent 3 of them in under 8 minutes with just leathers and to me .5 is not that big of a difference length wise and I took 3 of those 5.5" hex down and under 2" and still couldn't get the 6" G5 in leathers. If I'm right the 5.5" hex is stronger then the 6" G5 and I still don't know why I couldn't get it in just leather pads. Anyways I still got that G5, now I'm off working to get that G8 and G5 in just leathers Quote Name: Rob H

Tim71 Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Acorn beat me to it while I was pushing the button. I started to say let me be the first to congratulate you but second aint bad. The G5 is a milestone bend in any wraps. I still have my first G5 bolt in my save pile. To compare it to your hex is really hard to do because I've got G5s that vary alot. Some don't feel much worse than a hard 60d except the crush is usually much rougher. Plus the head of the bolt can make it different for some people where the hex doesn't have that concern. My first G8 was not long ago and I had gotten the 5.5 inch G5 then the G8 came after that. To me the 5 inch G5 is harder than most G8 bolts. Great Job! Tim Quote
dimmers Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Congrats on the G5! they're mean little suckers I'm pretty sure you'll get it next time round in just leather wraps, just really go for it and it will happen. I had a tough time with that bolt not so long ago and it really took a lot out of me doing it in small leather wraps - i think you just have to convince yourself it will happen (mind over matter - or pain in this case) and you'll surprise yourself. well done again! ObsceneJester Posted April 24, 2007 Author Posted April 24, 2007 I hope so.. and again thank you for all the help/advice and encouragement. It is frustrating tho bending a 5.5" Hex in just leathers and then trying to tackle a G5 and having to have thicker wraps.. Well I have my work cut out for me and I hope that the hex I got is on par with the hex's that were compared to the G5, if not then I have a lot of work .. Now to get that damn Grade 8 Quote Name: Rob H
Alawadhi Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 The Hex varies a lot. my 7" Hex was harder than all of my G5s. anyways congrats on the G5 bend. Quote Read about me in my biography. gazza Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Rob Congrats on the g5 thats a great bend for someone thats only been bending for 2months. Dont be to bothered about having to use bigger wraps you aint been bending long and it takes time to condition the hands and dont forget the g5 is your limit bend at the moment so thick wraps and a springy bolt will absorb some of your power as you get alot stronger you will learn to push fpor longer to get springy stock moving thats the secret of the isos it allows you to keep on pushing into the steel for longer.
