Bent A New Tougher Bastard Today

Recommended Posts

I decided to finish off the darker new bastard that was in my last batch. I had started the bend a few days ago but I bailed at about 10 degrees when I saw how tough it was because my shoulders and arms were really sore and I didn't want a tough challenge and I didn't know it was going to be so much tougher than the shiny ones that hit 385 lbs.

Anyway I decided to finish it off today which I did but I can say they are night and day difference. It was definately in the same league as the new Reds maybe even slightly tougher. I will say though that a bar I finish off like that is usually tougher than one that I get in one fell swoop. Anyway though I'd still say it's in the same league as the Red. The crush was unusually strong I felt for CRS. If I had another I send one to Eric but maybe somebody else already has.

If the new reds hit 460 then I'm going to guess this one will hit between 455 and 470. Probably not far from the 5/16 drill rod which calibrated at 475 for me.

Makes you wonder if sometimes these steel suppliers may be out of 1018 and they just substitude 1045 or something like that.

I was really killing the shinier bastards so this one really brought me back down to earth. I'd say anybody else like me who had their first experience with the shiny bastards are going to be in for a real shock when they re-order.

Nice stock John! Makes me realize how much harder I have to work.

Here's a link to a pic of the 2 together.

old bastard and new "hard" bastard

Great stuff TIM no "LIMITS" bro

Yes they are tougher, but don't let it faze you.

On my last few shiney bastards I reverse bent the 6.5" to 40 degress and the 6" to 13 degrees. Then I got the new dark bastards and realised ok these are tougher, but I just stuck to my plans and now I've just done the 6" hard bastard to 14 degrees.

You'll adapt and go beyond!

im looking forward to getting a couple of bastards that i swapped for a few new reds. the bastards have not arrived yet but i assume they will be the new type, not that it really matters.

btw david

during my enforced layoff with my shoulder, i have been trying reverse a bit. it doesnt hurt the shoulder like DO

Anyway managed to get 10º on a 280lb 60D. quite pleased

Sorry for the hijack

Thanks for the thought guys. David, I'll get the next one in one swoop. If I'd took the time and wrapped it right and really cracked down on it I think I'd have gotten it quicker but I was really sore and was going to take it easy and I thought it would be the same as the shiny ones.

Later guys.

Did 4 of the new ones myself today. The crush is alot harder than the old ones. Can't say I've noticed any difference on the color tho heh. The old ones I had got nearly black.

The crush feels similar to the new reds.

EDIT: Ok, I said exactly what Tim said now hah. Sorry :D Well at least we have experienced the same then

I'll be sending one to Eric for calibration shortly. I guess we will see what the damage is then.

Mats,

You may have never actually had one of the "easy" bastards then. The ones I had I almost thought they were stainless at first. Then I saw how shiny the stainless really is. You may have an old one and a new even harder one.
