makey98 Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Just curious to what you guys thought about training grip in a cycle. I think my problem and lack of consistent progress is that I love grip so much I try to do everything well. I have some basic grip strength goals.- -Bend Grd 5 reverse/DO, -lift 45 blob, -Close 2.5 and I wan't to accomplish them so I work on all three of these and never make good progress. It seems that when I bend I can't close a gripper for weeks! And bending makes it hard on the hands to lift blobs. Do you guys cycle on and off of your grip workouts with emphasis on each thing? Or do you workout each aspect (pinch,grippers/wrist/bending) on each workout? I don't want to lose my bending progress (just bent 1/4 CRS reverse!) but would like to work towards my lifting 45 blob goal.....Also, I finally closed the #2 a couple times, but if I bend I can't close it unless I don't bend or do anything for about 7-10 days. Opinions? Thanks. -makey Quote Current Goals: COC #2.5 45# blob R-Grade 5/G8 DO Deck of cards <10 sec.
Scott Styles Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 If I do bending and grippers in the same workout, whichever is last suffers. I usually pick one of the two for a cycle. My block work doesn't seem to suffer if I do it at the end of the workout. Usually I structure a grip workout like this: 1. Narrow strength - grippers, bending, or v-bar 2. Wider strength - thickbar, block weights, or other pinch work 3. Wrist strength - levering, wrist curls, or wrist roller 4. Hand health - finger extensions, dexterity balls, etc. If I don't stick to one or two exercises per strength for a cycle, I make no progress. Quote You don't get a dog and do the barking yourself.

superfeemiman Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 I usually focus one thing while doing my other stuff on the side, just enough so that I don't lose strength for them. Whenever I have free time, just trying to write some grip and strength articles that would be usefull to gripsters of all levels Quote Steve Pekarskiy

I think it's best way to avoid plateaus. Although at really high levels, not doing an exercise could probably take a big toll on your performance of it. don chi Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 The only thing I really have to cycle is bending. That seems to take a lot out of me. All the other stuff I can mix and match and still make good progress. Quote
