John Beatty Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Since I'm working on new feats for the strongman show on Sat, I bought some HR round at 1/2 for scrolling, 5/8 & 3/4 for long bar bends (I may be flattering myself on the 3/4, but who knows?). I cut a piece of the 5/8 as soon as I got home, took a 2 1/2 foot long piece to just shy of 90 degrees. I'll be bringing a 3' piece to the show & see if I can "U" it. Fun! Quote I like heavy things.
Tim71 Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 John, I just had a go at some longer steel outside. Man it's what originally got me hooked and it's fun stuff. You'll get the 3 foot by 5/8 piece with your strength. The 3/4 is mean stuff; to me it's harder than the legendary 1/2 inch by 1 inch steel at the same length. I did take a crack at 3/4 SQUARE and WHOA! Talk about pain in the ol' hands. No I didn't get it, not even close. I usually like to keep 9/16 on hand in a 3 foot length to make a fish out of and the 5/8 by 3 foot to "U". And of course the 1/2 inch is a great item to scroll as you mentioned. Also, a fun challenge is to see how short you can bend the 1/2 inch or any of it for that matter. Let us know how it goes. BTW, next time your at your steel supplier could you inquire as to if they have 11/16 and 13/16 HRS? I know it exists but it's a pain to find Quote
nickr104 Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 You should be able to do 3/4 John. A 3' chunk might be rough but longer than that like 4' or a little under you should be able to kill. If I can do it you should be able to because you have way more total body strength than me. Quote Nick RosendaulI am a Upser"I slept with John Eaton and lived to tell about it!"
Tim71 Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Yeah I agree at 4 foot you can get it. Look at that crazy 37.5 incher that MATS belted out. Whew! Seems like every couple inches shaved off 3/4 makes a pretty noticable difference. 4 foot is a good bend on the 3/4 inch. Tim Quote
