lloyd80s Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Hi All, I'm 27 years old and live in the UK, I lift weights from time to time but not as much as I'd like. This year my wife brought me a powerball for Christmas and I found it a really cool little device and after a while using it I found my grip was really starting to improve. This then got me looking on websites to find out about how to really devlope a powerful grip.............I found the captains of crush!! I've become totaly addicted to gripping and have picked up the grippers EVERYDAY since I first got my first one, a #1. I really want to progress with my gripping and have been doing wrist curls, hammer culrs, wrist rolling and pinching my plates. This has helped me to get my #2 closed within 3 weeks of having it and I've now got a #3 on the way. I'll bust my ass and my hands to close the #3 within 4 months........well that's my target anyway :0) My question is, as a newbie to gripping should I be using more than one make of gripper? I've started with the captains of crush grippers because I'm of the understanding that they're recocognised as the true grip strength monitoring tool? However after reading posts on the gripboard and looking at different sites, I've seen Beefbuilder, Barabans and Heavygrip grippers. I'm thinking that it may be wise to try them all out to see just what suits me best but I can't really aford to spend ££££££££ on loads of grippers. I was hoping that someone would be able to advise me on what really are the best grippers? If anyone could advise me it'd be great. Quote IT'S ONLY A SPRING........
MalachiMcMullen Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 There really aren't any you could say are the "best". Ironmind grippers were really the first standard and are still the gold standard and all other grippers are rated on the "Ironmind scale". If you've been looking around you probably have heard that gripper "hardness" varies from gripper to gripper and in that department IM's are pretty solid and more consistent than the others, the worst consistency belonging to Heavygrips. It's not really that important to train with different brands as the basic technique and ideas are the same but some companies make strengths that Ironmind doesn't so others use them as stepping stones to a stronger IM gripper. twig Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Surrey? So you're a Southern Shandy Drinking B*st*rd? I'd give up, Mate, you're clearly not hard enough to be COC, Just ask COC#3, Mobsterone, Pete et al! As to your question? Robert Barabans, and Beef Builders (from Warren Tetting) are your best bet (use the search function), HG's are cheaper, but you never know what you're getting. Given that, all grippers vary, and if you want to train to shut IM grippers, buy IM grippers. Just make sure you're well in excess of an IM#3 when you try and certify. Cheers mate, I'll stick with the IMs and work on the #3 as soon as the lazy postman delivers it!! I've been grinding my #2 today, feels pretty good!! Quote IT'S ONLY A SPRING........

Not hard enough eh......just give me 16 weeks and I'll be grinding the #3 handles no probs!! Thanks for the tips on Warren Tetting mate, seems that this guy is NO1 for grippers. I'd like a gripper with really sharp knurling so I'll try a beefbuilder. Do you know the beefbuilder in between the #2 and #3? Also, I've looked everywhere for a UK supplier of heavygrips but I can onle find US suppliers. I was going to try then out just because of the cheap price. Quote IT'S ONLY A SPRING........

Do you know the beefbuilder in between the #2 and #3?That would be a Super Master ( I hope, it's my birthday, so I'm quite drunk by now!). Avoid the HG300, it's not reliable. egg_uk Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 probably the 2, i can rep the 1.5 for 8 but havent got round to ordering the two, as i just ordered the other grippers i mentioned, so when they arrive ill hope to progress on to harder grippers. really should order some more im grippers. i had been out of all training for over a year, so not suprised that im not pushing any higher than the 1.5 at the minute, and just ordered some weights and a bench, and with the other grippers ive ordered i dont think i cna justify spending any more for a while Quote Goals Get Stronger Lift what I haven't lifted Close what I haven't closed

It's a good step up from the one and you'll save money in the end by just doing negs on it. I know everybodys different but I think the best way to close a goal gripper is to work on that gripper the most. Negs and holds on my #2 really help with closing it. Good luck mate. egg_uk Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 i know, ive been meaning to order it as i know reps arent the answer, just working on closing the 1.5 with my left and then im gonna file it, filed my one, the rbs ive ordered should be harder, so ill use the them for goal grippers and fpr negs until i order a 2, 2,5 and 3. its definitely more fun when you cant close a gripper as i find that i really try hard to close it, but when im repping it i dont have the same drive to try and get an extra rep. just started strap holds the other day. also im doin harder days and lighter days, in the lighter days i rep the trainer till failure for loads of sets. when i have, and can close, the two or my soon to be rb 180 ill go light medium and hard days for my usual 3 day week. sorry its such a long post Quote Goals Get Stronger Lift what I haven't lifted Close what I haven't closed
CoC#3 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Hi, If you want a gripper inbetween a #2 and a #3 i would suggest a BBSM or a #2.5. I agree with you about the knurling, tough is best and the beef builders cannot be beaten for this. Sam Quote real name: Sam Solomi
