Big Pr's (for Me)

Recommended Posts

i thought i might try 2 6mm x 5.75" shiny nails taped together last night, well after the hardest kink in my life they started to go. I finished them in under 5 min

THEN

I thought why not try the big bit of steel that was sitting laughing at me on the shelf, an 8mm x 7" CRS round. Something i had failed on at least 5 times over the last 10 days

the kink was unbelievably hard on my index fingers but i eased into it and then brought the power on like a "hydraulic ram". I think gazza described his kink in that way. I really broke the pain barrier on that one and finished the bar in under 5 minutes, which was quicker than when i cheat kinked it to 30º the other day.

I hadn't been bending for a few days due to a bad shoulder, but i had been using a piece of stiff plasctic about 12mm diam and about 7.5" long to just hold under my chin and flex and just feel the kink. This was another gazza tip i think. It really worked, and this PR's was the best form i have had yet.

Much thanks to Gazza and especially Ben, these guys are real good and have helped me a lot :mosher

well earned rest, my shoulder isnt right so i will leave it for a while.

some short 1/4" stainless maybe, as practice for some G5s

obviously cut the 8mm down a bit, the one i bent yesterday was about 3/8" off centre so i think i may have a shot at 6.5"

then its RED or BASTARD time

what about you, have you done any 1/4 stock yet? 3/16 stainles might be fun if you can get some

1/4" round is next for me. i have tried some 3/16" square, but it didn't feel much harder than the round (maybe different grade). I have some im yellows (7"x1/4") so that's my next goal. will do some more short nails too.

rest the shoulder, they suck at rehab. i seperated my a/c joint a while back and it took 6-8 months to heal right. get plenty of heat into it and some ibuprofen will help too. swimming is an excellent way to rehab shoulders.

Liam,

Seems every time i read one of your posts, it's like reading about my training session. I also tried two 6mm nails last night and got it (pic in my gallery).

I tried a bit of 8mm crs the other night as well but only managed to get a slight bow in the bar. I decided to file the middle of the bar down a bit then had another go and got it (but not under 2 inches). Must admit though i'm using fairly large wraps as my hands aren't quite up to the pain yet :whacked

Well done mate, i think you'll get that bastard sooner than you think (and sooner than me)! I can also say that doing ISO on a longer bar than you're trying to bend to be a great tip, i've been using an 8 inch length of crs for flexibility and kink training, it's working wonders.

Keep us updated on your progress mate!!! :rock

i love swimming and have always done quite a bit of it, i have tweaked a rotator cuff i think

try 3/16" stainless that will be quite a bit harder than mild round at that diam

youdimmers

cool keep it up mate, i had tried a few 8mm x 7" and slightly bowed them, i also had finished a cheat kinked one so i knew i wasn't far off. the plastic bar i was using wasn't for isos, in fact i flexed it too much and snapped it. it was to get my hands positioned better and for whats its worth i think it was the single most helpful thing i have done so far. it helps you feel where your hands are most effective

i put 1 of my 8mm bars in the lathe and took the middle 2.5" down to 7.65mm. i failed on the kink again, then the next night i got the 8mm??????? I cut them all from the same bar too

i cut the heads off my nails cus its easier to wrap them then i also taped the ends together instead of the middle. this made them feel like they were 1 piece instead of 2 taped together. Ive no idea if im right or wrong, just good to comapre and contrast i suppose

Some more great bending Liam!!! Every time I get an e-mail from you it's telling me you bent another PR. :yikes Great times when the gains are coming like this. Enjoy it and cultivate it as much you can. I think you'll smoke the Bastard. Great work man, keep it up!

Glad the ISOS and longer bar training are working for you its a pity more people aint doing it just wait till youve been doing it for 6mths then you really feel the power the steel starts shitting itself when you look at it :D cause it knows you have the power.

Ride the PR wave bro show the steel no mercy.

8mm is actually a bit wider than 5/16". Great job, Liam and we look forward to reading more from you :mosher

Re: ISOS...about how long should I crank into each hard ISOS for ?

I also need to find something like hard plastic that I can practice kink with that kinks a bit and then snaps right back.

You're right

8mm is 0.31496" and 5/16 is 0.3125" not a lot bigger but it is, just

with the plastic i used for the kink training its not that difficult to bend, it just helped me to get my hands in the most effective position and be able to feel the initial bend more. its good
