dunkster Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 I found a guy selling different bits of stainless rod, tube and square tube in the classifieds section of my local newspaper today so went and had a look. He was an engineer who had some 10mm and 12mm stainless rod and the tubing that he had tried to make a big sort of bracket type thing with but it hadn't worked so he cut it up and was just trying to clear the parts. He asked what I wanted it for and I told him it was for short bending and straight away he started saying " nobody can bend that, they wouldn't be able to bend 8mm stainless". I told him if he wants to see some bends to go on you tube and have a look at Gazza, but he just kept arguing the point. So, being frustrated now, I told him I'd give him a fiver for the lot and he took it. 7x5' lengths of 10mm stainless for £5 the lot!! Which would make roughly 60 7" lengths. So if anyone wants a few bits for the price of the postage let me know as I want to share my good luck with all and I think it'll be a while before I can dent this stuff but I thought it'd be a nice thing to aim for. I'll get a little package weighed up at the post office and find out what it'll be either UK or abroad. Quote Goals Cert on #3 Lift Inch Whey Consortium
David Horne Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 Nice find, well done. 10mm is out of my league though. David Quote
dunkster Posted April 1, 2007 Author Posted April 1, 2007 I was hoping he might have some 8mm which would have been even better but no luck there. Quote Goals Cert on #3 Lift Inch Whey Consortium

gazza Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 I will do you a swop mate i will send you some 8mms/5/16" round or hex in crs or stainless for 4 x 7inch pieces of that. Did you get the 12mms stainless as well that would make great ISO/Crushdown stuff. Quote "There he goes. One of gods own prototypes. dunkster Posted April 1, 2007 Author Posted April 1, 2007 I didn't but I can do. Quote Goals Cert on #3 Lift Inch Whey Consortium
gazza Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 The 12mms stainless would make for nice short braced bends as well. Any idea on the grade wether its 303 or 304 dont really matter at that thickness its all tough stuff but would be nice to know on a 7" x 10mms thickness bar i reckon your lookin at a 900lbs bar and the 12mms will be around the 1100lbs mark really nice for crushdown work. dunkster Posted April 4, 2007 Author Posted April 4, 2007 Not sure on the rating but he seemed pretty convinced it was really tough stuff. Got to see the chap tomorrow about the 12mm and will sort some of the 10mm for you. It's been a real busy week haven't had chance to sort it yet. Quote Goals Cert on #3 Lift Inch Whey Consortium

dunkster Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 That's amazing! The bloke that sold it to me would sh*t a brick, he didn't believe anyone could ever bend a 7" piece, even slightly! Quote Goals Cert on #3 Lift Inch Whey Consortium

Tim71 Posted April 15, 2007 Posted April 15, 2007 My classifieds around my area usually only have junk that should go straight to the dumpster. Nice find. Great job on the steel Gazza! Tim Quote
