superfeemiman Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Is this for blockweight training? Are you just grabbing the face side of the dumbell head without cutting it off? If you are: John Brookfield recommends not to because he says you could risk injury from it (because your wrist is in a bind). I don't know if that's true, but it was in his book. A better alternative if you just have weight plates would be to put them in a loading pin and pinch them like a blockweight. You can do this by putting a big plate (5-20 lbs.) smooth-side out on each side and putting 2.5's in the middle of them to make the width large like a blockweight, try to make the width at least 4 inches and it resembles a blockweight greatly. You can increase weight by either putting larger plates on the side or replacing a 2.5 with a 5 or something. gagleard Posted March 31, 2007 Author Posted March 31, 2007 Since the head of the 10 is really small (3 1/4), I pinch it across the top. Its the same way Bender pinches his blobs to train his ring and pinky finger on his website: http://www.geocities.com/ltgodfrey/three.html But on mine I hang the extra weight off of the other side of the dumbbell. I'll try and get a pic in my gallery soon. Thanks for the responses. Quote

I wasn't talking about where you grab, but whether or not the rest of the dumbbell is attached. I haven't trained that way, all I know about it is that Brookfield does not recommend it.
