ObsceneJester Posted March 29, 2007 Posted March 29, 2007 You can take a fence post (or the post that link the chain fences together) and slip on a 2" PVC over the top of it.. Make it as long as you would like and cut out about a 5-6" piece to use as the handle Quote Name: Rob H
chop163 Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 I've got a 7ft piece of scaffold with 4 sets of scaffold clamps as collars that I use. It's the right diameter for oly plates. Quote Crushing is my business, and business is good.
Biggerfoot Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Here is a link to two styles of dumbbells I made They have held up quite well. Quote Real Name: Clay Johnson

I know there are posts about this but it's really pretty simple. Buy a piece of 1 1/2" pipe (schedule 40 or 80 if you are strong) - same length as an Olympic bar is good. Buy two 2" set screw shaft collars if you can't weld or two 2" washers if you can. You will have to do just a little filing on the washers so they fit. Put the inside collars on the same spacing as a regular bar - you now have a fat bar that will work just fine - except your regular Olympic collars will be too loose and you'll need the T handle type collars if you even use collars - most don't . The plates will be a little loose but it works just fine. You can also go with either 2" DOM tube or solid but be aware that many plates will not fit over an actual 2" bar. You can of course have the ends turned down if you have trouble that way. Quote When people used to ask him how it was he became so incredibly strong, it was always the same, "strengthen your mind, the rest will follow". The Mighty Atom Age wrinkles the body.
