mobsterone Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 A few years ago I was very fortunate to be able to get quite a bit of help with both my preparations and expenses in preparing for and travelling to the USA for the GGC 2004. At the time money was tough and Mick Hart and John Owen from www.mickhart.com started by buying me a Euro Pinch. Later on Mick, all at his own expense, was able to help me with my fares and hotel costs. A sum of a not inconsiderable $900.00. Later on, though my protein company www.wheyconsortium.com Mike Betty (GB member and business partner) and I were able to support several competitions and three athletes in our own small way. During the same time period a competitve level athlete, Darren 'strengthmonster' Sherlock was looking for help in getting to Athens for a bodybuilding competition when he got a suprise invite. Within a week a whip round amongst Mick Hart's board members raised his air fare. It was, for me, my way of paying back my own good fortune when I had help before. Many of you know David Horne and what he has done for the sport we love and enjoy. He has put blood sweat and tears into pushing our sport forward for nigh on 15 or more years. As a two time promoter I know (plus from speaking to others) that he'll have lost a ton of money over that time from his own pocket and topped up fees when they've fallen short. In what may well be a moment of madness, considering the various injuries he's suffered (even now recovering from a bad shoulder injury) he's put his name down for what may well be his last big year. Competing in the 2007 British Championships and being invited to the GGC he's been mulling over whether or not to go. With his youngest, Lucy, fresh on the scene money is of course tight. I've spoken to David and offered to help in my own way. If the mods of the Gripboard are ok with it (please contact me if there are any problems) I'd like to ask you all if you'd like to help. Please contact me via this thread or via PM and we'll get the ball rolling. I want to keep everything as transparent as possible and so any monies donated will be posted (with or without names if so requested) here. I'll be posting a similiar plea on other boards. If anyone needs to know more please contact me. Quote Steve Gardener, British 2006/2008/2009/2010 champ, 117.5kg 2HP, Euro 2008 & 2010 champ

bencrush Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 I'm in for $50. Please let me know where to PayPal that to and I'll send it ASAP. You know what would be better (and wickedly fun) is to somehow hide this entire topic from David's view. That way we could raise the money and then just give him one of those big Publisher's Sweepstakes kind of checks. Quote
The Mac Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 I will put 20 quid in for this as well. And if there is any left over, I think maybe Elizabeth should be persuaded too - given the rate she is going in her griplog, she might be the stronger of the two by the time the contest rolls around! twig Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 It's in August, right? I can afford to kick in £10 each payday until then, that'll be 5 payments, so £50. Quote Be nice until it's time to not be nice-Patrick Swayze, Dalton, Raodhose. R.I.P.
