CoC#3 Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Yesterday i sprained my right middle finger pretty badly with the eagle loops and when i did it i noticed pain shot right up from my finger into my forearm! Now the forearm is fine but the symptoms i am left with is a very stiff hand, tingling in the wrist and a sore finger. Anyone experinced this? What i find strange though is that unless i move that middle finger around i am not even aware that i have an injury! And then every so often if i put pressure on that finger i get the tingling in the wrist tendons all over again. What would you suggest for rehab? Contrast baths have been helping a lot. What about the powerball? Thanks, Sam Quote real name: Sam Solomi
TomY Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Sam, those contrast baths would help at this stage. Try some light extensor work like opening your hands in a bucket full of sand ect. That may help. Good luck with training and rest that finger. Tom Quote Do better than last time
BIKERICH Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 it depends on what type of injury you have.if you tore a collateral ligament or a tendon etc. or is it just a sprain and no tear.usually experience with hand injuries will give you a clue to what you have done.but if in doubt see a hand surgeon.i have said this many times.seeing a hand surgeon doesnt mean he will perform surgery! if you tore a collateral ligament usually it is splinted for a period of time for example.hopefully it is just a sprain. Thanks for the advice/info dude! I don't think it is that serious. I can still rep the #1 fairly easily in my injured hand (this would rule out a tear, right?). I don't get any pain from doing so, all i get is tingling in the wrist. Quote real name: Sam Solomi

bunchofbananas Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 I wouldn't do the contrast baths if i were you. I've heard they are bad for injuries but good for healing when there is no injury or excess inflammation. I'd say just go for ice buckets. The hot and cold can increase inflammation apparently. From my experience in injuries i'd say wait until you think it has fully healed.... then wait another week. Then take a week or so bringing your workload on that injured part back up to its original level. Lets not have this thing develop into tendonosis! Good luck. oh and: don't stretch. Quote
Rick Browne Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 I strongly suggest you immobilize the finger for a while. By that, I mean splinting it and taping it up so the finger can not have movement. Most pharmacies have finger splints to do this. Ice and compression would be the ticket for now. CoC#3 Posted December 3, 2006 Author Posted December 3, 2006 Good advice guys, thank you very much for your input. Contrast baths have been helping it a lot. I have full range of motion, and just 36 hours after injury, recovery is looking good. Been reading some worrying stuff about torn flexor tendons though! I think it is my flexor tendon causing the problem but i read around the web about this and if it is a tear you will have no ROM in the injured finger. Quote real name: Sam Solomi
deaner Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 I had something similar happen to me when doing no set attempt, got my right ring finger, took a few months to heal and occasionally I still feel it a bit when doing no set grippers, I just waited, trained my left hand and then started doing excersises other than grippers for a while. A there any excersises that don't hurt it? superfeemiman Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 I got my ring ringer sprained not too long ago. I would advise immobilizing your finger with tape or whatever like what a few people said. menace3000 Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 fingers sprains are the worst....I have sprained my pinkie/ring fingers on several occassions playing basketball and they took close to 6 months to fully heal....quite annoying Quote
CoC#3 Posted December 3, 2006 Author Posted December 3, 2006 Thanks all for the advice. probably rules it out.how is range of motion, pain etc. pain - not bad at all. Only hurts when i put pressure on fingertip, typing with that finger causes very slight pain aswell. range of motion - normal. Quote real name: Sam Solomi
