steve_84 Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 How much can I file down on my gripper before it becomes to weak? Quote
Crotchulla Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 I don't think that it makes them weaker. I've filed my gripper about 1/4 of the handle and it seems fine. Quote Goals by April 2008 Close #3 (still) Deadlift 470 lbs (still) Middle finger lift 200lbs Military Press BW

mbcx6pmw Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 The strength of the gripper comes from the spring, the handle is just there to apply leverage, so you won't make it weaker by filing it. Quote Paul Wood
chop163 Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Do you mean making the spring weaker or the handles? Quote Crushing is my business, and business is good.
steve_84 Posted November 27, 2006 Author Posted November 27, 2006 Do you mean making the spring weaker or the handles? I ment the handles, but now I'm thinking, the more you'd cut off the handles, the harder the spring has to work. I have cut about 1/4 off the handle. Would it be ok to cut off more? Quote
Crotchulla Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Yeah, there are videos on this board with people crushing grippers without much of a handle left. I assume its ok or else people wouldn't do it. Quote Goals by April 2008 Close #3 (still) Deadlift 470 lbs (still) Middle finger lift 200lbs Military Press BW
Bearcat 74 Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 I have one cut to 3/8" thick and cut up to the center line on an angle and it is fine, it is a #3. steve_84 Posted November 27, 2006 Author Posted November 27, 2006 Cool. Think I'll cut more off tomorrow then. Thanks. Quote
superfeemiman Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 (edited) You definitely should. It's one of the best ways to work your close.
