How much can I file down on my gripper before it becomes to weak?

Posted

I don't think that it makes them weaker. I've filed my gripper about 1/4 of the handle and it seems fine.

The strength of the gripper comes from the spring, the handle is just there to apply leverage, so you won't make it weaker by filing it.

Do you mean making the spring weaker or the handles?

Crushing is my business, and business is good.

I ment the handles, but now I'm thinking, the more you'd cut off the handles, the harder the spring has to work.

I have cut about 1/4 off the handle. Would it be ok to cut off more?

Yeah, there are videos on this board with people crushing grippers without much of a handle left. I assume its ok or else people wouldn't do it.

I have one cut to 3/8" thick and cut up to the center line on an angle and it is fine, it is a #3.

You definitely should. It's one of the best ways to work your close.
