EmEx Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 Im about to buy a new 7 foot barbell and im thinking about switching to olympic plates and bar because the standart bar i have now probably cant hold much more then 300lbs before it bends. I have about 200lbs of standart plates now can one use these on an olympic bar by removing the "collar" of the olympic bar (if that is even possible)? I know im still far off the limit of my regular barbell but i have to buy a new longer bar anyways so im wondering should i buy an olympic bar or standart bar? Quote
danegarreau Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 If your at all serious about lifting weights; then yes; switch to an olympic barbell. Quote My Gallery- http://www.gripboard.com/index.php?act=mod..._album&album=30
Klicks Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 In the long run olympic will be better. I just recently sold my standard wieghts and bought an olympic set and I would definetly reccomend doing it. The most I lifted on my standard bar was 310 and it was permenatly bent after that. Also I do believe you can remove the collars on an olympic bar. Quote 2009 Goals @ 185 Lb. BW Close #3 555 lb. Raw Deadlift (Done 6/1/09) 225 lb. Strict Standing Press 30 Pull-Ups
greenBuddah Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Maybe with a big lathe or milling machine you could extend the bore to 50mm. Quote
