Switch To Olympic Plates?

Recommended Posts

Posted

Im about to buy a new 7 foot barbell and im thinking about switching to olympic plates and bar because the standart bar i have now probably cant hold much more then 300lbs before it bends.

I have about 200lbs of standart plates now can one use these on an olympic bar by removing the "collar" of the olympic bar (if that is even possible)?

I know im still far off the limit of my regular barbell but i have to buy a new longer bar anyways so im wondering should i buy an olympic bar or standart bar?

In the long run olympic will be better. I just recently sold my standard wieghts and bought an olympic set and I would definetly reccomend doing it. The most I lifted on my standard bar was 310 and it was permenatly bent after that. Also I do believe you can remove the collars on an olympic bar.

Maybe with a big lathe or milling machine you could extend the bore to 50mm.
