Mikulich Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 At the California Iron Grip contest this dilemma came up for the two handed pinch: What type of grip is allowed? Double overhand, Double underhand, or mixed? Ultimately it was decided that double overhand was the only grip allowed but does anyone use a mixed grip on the two handed pinch? Is it legal in some competitions? Do you guys think it would even help? Quote
mobsterone Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I don't think it would help. Quote Steve Gardener, British 2006/2008/2009/2010 champ, 117.5kg 2HP, Euro 2008 & 2010 champ
David Horne Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Double overhand is the only grip allowed. David Quote
Mikulich Posted November 16, 2006 Author Posted November 16, 2006 It doesn't help! If David Horne states a mixed grip is illegal in contests I think we can take it as a fact. But if it doesn't help why is it illegal? Quote
Number Ten Ox Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 I can two handed pinch a lot more weight with a double underhanded grip. It helps me and I totally see why it's illegal. My 2 cents. Bob Lipinski Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 With double underhand you'd put a ton of wrist into the lift. Quote US Handstrength
Hubgeezer Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 The questions Mikulich asked were ones the meet director was being asked just minutes before the event started. I had Dale Harder's phone number in my cell phone and called him. Although he didn't know the answer, he said he had never heard of any contest where it was done other than DO, so that was good enough for everyone. Glad to see it was the right way to go. Quote
Too Tall Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 DO is the only way to go. I have found that the other methods do not help me increase the lift...I still do more weight DO. Just my 2 cents. Chad Quote
